My first "big" bike was a '78 XS 750.
I remember a lot of shaft effect and a high center of gravity making it really want to stand up in corners.

The thing I remember mostly was when rolling off in 2nd gear then nailing the throttle (like when trying to tease the guy next to you into a race).  The damn thing would always jump into neutral.  I swear I saw the tach spin all the over once.

Hey, I had one of those... a bright red one.

Put 25k miles on it the first year, then got totaled when a drunk rearended me at a red light. sniff.

yes second gear is a problem on the xs replaced mine with an 850 tranny
my 79 has about 65000 miles and still runs strong
not sure how many mods i'll do to the fj it's really clean and stock
and i think at least a few of us need to preserve some for the young folks to see what a good looking bike looks like
first meet up with my friends the all guessed 2000 year or newer
they couldn't believe it was an 85

85's rock keep it looking stock just mod the performance/handling side of things, keep it a sleeper.

Welcome fastfred1. The '85 is a great bike. With a few mods, like 17" wheels, radials and larger front anchors they become outstanding. I had no intensions to modify mine until I joined this site. So beware of the moditis bug.    :flag_of_truce:  Regards, Pete.

Welcome Fred, I see you dropped a zero in your first sentence, no biggie, we know what you mean. By chance, did you drop a zero in your second sentence?
You ment a '85 fj1100 with 22000 miles, right? Can't be 2200. No way. Impossible. Did the odometer turn over? If you really got a 26 year old bike with 2200 miles on it, did you find it in a museum or a private collection? For $1400... did you bring a gun?

Absolutely incredible, you scored big time.   Congrats and welcome again!
