Can these be replaced by anything aftermarket? the rubber is pretty weak and they bend a lot but i dont want to pay $300 or whatever it is for an oem set.

Years ago on the Yahoo forum, Jon Cain mentioned about using BMW rubbers on his FJ footpegs, or was it BMW footpegs? Jon?
There are solid billet aftermarket pegs you can use if you don't mind the vibes at your feet.
I saw a link to some German pegs, kinda cool, you could clock them to place the pegs where you wanted:

I use early BMW K bike steel footrests with the BMW covers. They don't vibrate like the stock FJ footrests. Its like lead shot in the handlebars, and it works.
The stock footreat covers are still available for about $16.69.
The newer FJ's use a folded steel riders footrest, if you have those try to find a set of the early cast aluminum FJ1100 footrests, they may work better for you.

I think someone else used early model Goldwing pegs, the ones off a 1500 maybe?

IIRC, Tim C has some sort of Buell peg on his FJ, but they are sort of fragile... I think he has broken 1 or 2 of them.

I would try a couple large washers on the foot peg bolts.

a little larger than the rubber so it will touch the foot pegs.

Hey thats what I did. It works very well. The right washer will space it out, w/out showing. :good2:

I had Buell Ulysses pegs on my VFR and they were about an inch lower than stock so it bought me a little extra leg room. They were $35 each. Pretty sure they will fit the FJ. Ask Tim, he checked mine out and thought they would fit. Nice pegs.

I'm not talking about the actual peg, but rather the parts that bolt to the bike. That part has two rubber bushings that get all worn and allow the entire assembly to sag when you put weight on it.

I'm just guessing but I suspect that you'r referring to the two bushings in the footpeg mounting bracket. There is no part # for these bushings in the FJ parts book other than the complete bracket with bushings installed. However these bushings look identical to the bushings for the footrest mounting brackets for the 06-10 FZ1 part# 1NL 27424-00-00. I recently removed and reinstalled these bushings on my 06 FZ1 in order to powdercoat the brackets. While reinstalling them on the FZ I also changed to some dropped pegs. Not wanting to waste a good set of  stock footrests I decided to put them on my 93 FJ. They gave me 5/8 inch increase in legroom without compromising ground clearance. What was interesting was that the mounting system for the brackets loked identical between the two bikes. Even the outer washers part# 90209-08295-00 is the same for both.                                                                                                                To remove the bushings and to install new ones or reinstall old ones your going to need some pressplugs or bushing drivers. WARNING. DO NOT press on the center of the bushing as you'll simply break it while either removing or installing  it. You need to press on the outer steel part of the bushing only. I machined a .850 dia. driver with a .600 counterbore about .100 deep to clear the centre of the bushing. Also you'll need a bottem support to support the bracket and allow the old bushing to fall through, od 1.150 id .950 length .750 To install I used a one inch press plug with the same counterbore as the removal tool and the same bottem support.                                                                                                        I don't know what year your bike is but the 91-93 models also used a rubber damper on the inside bolt part# 3XW-27414-00-00. If worn you might want to relace them as well.                                                                                                                  Let me know how this works out for you.   Good luck Hein.
What do you mean, you don't have a lathe?

Wakdady,
Those bushings are on my list of future items I want to improve. Since I have a source in the urethane bushing manufacturing, we have already discussed it.

But for the immediate time being we are working on the new urethane motor mount kit.

What I did for some relief was to add a rubber washer I got at my hardware store between the head of the bolt and the footpeg body. This helped a little, which has me thinking of designing a bushing to replace the old one that will have a flange to isolate the mounting body from the bolt.

I really doubt I will get to this bushing until later in the year; I have to get the motor mount kit, oil cooler, fork valves and other items that I am already working up and running first.

Hmmm,

It's been a long time since I looked at a skateboard truck,

Maybe the bushings from them would be a ready made fit?

That's not a half bad idea, albeit I think they'd run too hard to help with vibration much.  Got me thinking though, if you're going to reshape things a pinch anyhow, something that'd be softish and close might be a rubber stopper for an Erlenmeyer flask:

You can also get them in silicone, might wear a little better.

I pressed one out yesterday and the stock bushing measure out at 20mm(OD) X 18(L). I was really hoping some SOHC CB750 shock bushings would fit but the OD is to large ( 22mm) and there isn't enough material to remove to allow a fit. Has anybody measured swingarm bushings for clevis type shocks? Mind footpegs really flex and I don't want to solid bushings.
