No real updates lately, I have been a little lazy. But I did put the wheel back on with the new spacer. It went on easier than the FJ wheel.

The brake stay is about 2 1/2 inches too long so I'll have to shorten it and find someone to weld it back together.

Nice work Travis, definitely an inspiration for next year, the front end rebuild/upgrade cleaned me this year...

Ive fitted a kawasaki 5.50 wide wheel to my fj1200

What year and bike did it come from?

Hi Travis I'm sorry, ive no idea of the year of the wheel?? You look like youve gone down the same path as myself with the spacer idea,it looks good!
Im very busy with other bikes at the moment, but i plan to have my fj up and running for late April, definately for the begining of May,so i do promise i'll post some pics, for comparison. :good2:

5.5x17 and by the look of it, that's from a 94-97 ZX9R or a ZX7 (/ZXR750).

Got my zx7r wheel.

I'm not 100% sure but I think 93-95 wheels have the same 20mm axle size as the FJ.

I think the 96-03? went with the 6" wheel and a bigger axle.

As I said I am not 100% sure, I wouldn't recommend buying a wheel unless, you can confirm it uses a 20mm axle

or you just want to open a great big can of worms.

I have been having a little bit of a set back here.
A couple weeks ago a member of the forum informed me that he bought the same wheel but it does in fact not have a 20mm axle. So that got me thinking something isn't right. Especially since there was a bushing pressed into the wheel bearing that looked out of place to me. Since I have never seen a Kawi wheel I just assumed it was the way it is supposed to be. Until I heard from the other FJ member.

So It was starting to bug me, I had to take the wheel apart and have a closer look. Sure enough this bushing/spacer doesn't even make contact with the cush drive bearing, good to know before I start riding it.
So now I know something is wrong. I pressed the bushing out and the bearing to have a closer look. The bearing does appear to be the stock Kawi bearing.

#6205 which is a 25x52x15. So now I assume the stock Kawi axle is in fact a 25mm.

I did some searching to see if I could find the same bearing with an ID of 20mm, sure enough they are very common. Even Amazon sells them
http://www.amazon.com/VXB-6304-2RS-Bearing-20x52x15-Sealed/dp/B002BBI8P0/ref=sr_1_3?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1301851880&sr=1-3

and as luck would have it, this is the same bearing the FJ uses in the rear wheel. #6304 20x52x15

I dodged a bullet there. However I do need to come up with the right size collar to fit in between the bearings in the wheel. I can use the FJ collar but it is aprox. 6 or 7mm too short. Shouldn't be that hard to fix.

However, I still need a spacer/bushing to fit the cush drive bearing, so it looks like another trip to the machine shop for that. I will have to take a closer look at it and get some accurate measurements.

Hopefully I can still use the spacer I had machined for the other side as that machine shop work isn't cheap.

Looks like this will hold me up for a little while but will check back in when I start making progress again.

wow good save.

you would have noticed when the rear wheel did not turn after you torqued to specs anyway.

Finally got this POS on the road again, I haven't rode it since November. It sure did feel good to ride it again.
I was able to make/find the remaining spacers I needed to make it rideable laying around the shop.

It sounds like the GSX wheel is an easier mod............. for what it's worth.

Are the brakes better than the FJ?
But Yama-saki sounds better than Yama-zuki.
It looks real nice in person too.

The brake stay was a little longer than I liked so I cut a couple inches off of it and had it welded back together.

I then gave it a polish job that even Pat would be proud of.

looks so good i think im gonna have to do it as well. by any chance do you have the dimensions of the right hand spacer you got made?   I have a ratty 89 zxr 750 h1 with a blown engine so i already  have most of whats needed already, unfortunately the disc is cracked and the caliper is siezed so i might have to play around with what i can find.
