I think I found it, Japan Light Alloy Wheel testing council

A1:    We will provide descriptions and the background of each mark and its related organization.
(1)    The JWL mark
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism established the quality and performance criteria of light alloy wheels. There are standards "Technical standards for Light Alloy Disc Wheels for Passenger Cars" and "Technical standards for Light Alloy Disc Wheels for Trucks and Buses," and products that have passed these Standards, by voluntary inspection, should have JWL (for passenger cars) and JWL-T (for tracks and buses) engraved on them.
Incidentally JWL comes from "Japan Light Alloy Wheel".
(2)    VIA mark
As a light alloy wheel is an important safety part for vehicles and its safety quality can affect human lives, any organizations that manufacture and sell light alloy wheels or testing organizations that inspect and check aftermarket wheels need to do so based upon the technical standards approved by MLIT, and to have them registered accordingly. This is known as VIA registration.
Registration is performed by the Japan Light Alloy Automotive Wheel Testing Council (hereafter referred to as "the Council") and testing and registration are performed by the Japan Vehicle Inspection Association (hereafter referred to as Vehicle Inspection).
VIA is a registered trademark of the Japan Vehicle Inspection Association.
The JWL mark and VIA mark are applied in Japan.
The council is made up of the Nippon Auto Parts Aftermarket Committee (NAPAC) JAWA Division and the Japan Aluminum Association (JAA) along with the Japan Vehicle Inspection Association.

I just did some research and found this:

"JWL" (Japan Light Wheel Alloy) is a compilation of standards defined by the Japanese Government to ensure the vehicle's safety for aluminum road wheels. Every wheel put to market must be tested to meet JWL standards before a wheel can be put out to market in Japan.

These standards are generally accepted worldwide as acceptable for most road conditions. That is why you will see these marks on European and other Asian country wheels.

So these wheels may or may not come from the same manufacture.

I agree looks like it is just some kind of safety rating

So do you have all the brake and sprocket hardware necessary to do the mod?  Are you going to have to do any machine work to make it fit?  As you can tell, I am pretty interested in how this turns out.  It would be nice to know that there are other options out there that are viable alternatives to the Gixxer wheel.

I don't  know if I have the necessary hardware but I did get the cush drive, brake caliper and bracket. I was hoping to keep
stock brakes but we will see. I didn't get any axle spacers though.

Not sure about the machine work either, not many people talking about the Kawasaki wheel upgrade around here.

I did find out that the zx7 had a 530 chain till 96' and then switched to a 525. So sprockets should be easy to find.

(popcorn)

People seem to be spilling popcorn all over the floor and trashing the place out, I may have to ban popcorn from this thread.

Another bike needed some attention this week so I didn't get a lot of time to work on the FJ.

But I did put the wheel on  :yahoo:

I think the chain moved over a little but it is still in the middle of the chain guard so it should work fine.

Looks promising!  I am having trouble locating a GSXR rear wheel and have thought this may be the next easiest swap. ...for what its worth,if you go to our "modifications for your FJ" file and then down to the wheel swap section under GSXR ,Bob shammus (?) covers some info on the ZX7 wheel swap.   Update us when you can on the brake side and overall fitment please. thanks.
89 FJ1200 saphire.blu owned 8-9 years.  By far the most satisfying of them all. Constant tinkering got me the best bike you could ever want.

:good: way to go, Travis!!!!  :good2:

Now, what about the brake?  Keep us updated on that.

Take a look at this mod!!!  How cool would your FJ be having this hanging on the back?  Any of our more affluent members want to try this on for size?

you may have to post a link, I seem to be having a hard time finding that.

As far as the brakes, I was hoping to use stock, but there is no way that brake caliper bracket will fit in there.

so I'll have to use the Kawasaki caliper and caliper bracket. It looks like the bracket lines up with the disc

perfectly when resting against the swing arm. so a spacer in between should work perfectly.

I think I will get a measurement and stop in at the local machine shop and have one made.
