I searched but couldn't find a place a topic about where to buy new fenders.  Is their a place to purchase new or used plastic in good condition?

In a word, Ebay.  There is another place over in Europe that sells aftermarket bits.  Here is the link:

I bought a front fender--back half-- from these guys last year.

http://shop.zanottimotor.com/

Part numbers (you'll need them) can be found here http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

I think you'll find that there are 2 part numbers for each of the 2 fender halves (4 numbers in all)  They pertain to which color '89 you have, blue or silver.  I used the 'live chat' feature on the Zanotti website to find out from them which number I needed to use to for my blue bike.

You can still buy them new from Yamaha, in most colors. but be prepared to pay.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

i have just been buying bits gradually off ebay, as and when they come up in good condition and now have a complete set inc tank, air scoops etc, for less than £100, all with all lugs unbroken, could have done it quicker if i had bought more expensive bits but only took about 6 months of casual looking around, all depends how much of a rush you are in for the bits.
