Vernon

Hi there guys
Sorry for being so rude. I posted a problem and expected you guys to help me out without even introducing myself. My name is Vernon and I reside in Port Elizabeth in the sunny South Africa. I bought my 1984 FJ1100 for a song about two years ago. Had quite a bad fall three montyhs ago, broke two ribs and so on. Had the FJ respryaed and replced broken mirror, brake lever and exhaust.

Just got the bike back about two weeks ago. It runs very nicely but I have picked up something strange. it tends to backfire quite a bit, especiaaly if I close the throttle at speed. Further more I am quite urgently looking for a front mudguard for my fj. The other one was damaged beyond repair in the accident.

Thanks guys, now I feel much better. Glad to be part of your group.
Happy biking

Vernon

Welcome Vernon. No worries mate, we will help you with your '84. I am rather partial to '84's.
I saw your questions posted over at the Maintenance section and you have gotten some good feedback, and it appears you have your backfire problem fixed.
Re: Front mudguard (fender): Last time I checked the FJ front fender can still be obtained thru Yamaha but you may need to paint it to match your '84's colors. All FJ front fenders are interchangeable, it's just the colors that are different. If not available from your local Yamaha source, here's a UK company that makes a front fender:

As you see, I moved your intro. over to this section where we greet the new folks.
Sunny South Africa eh? Good roads down there?

Cheers!   Pat

Hi there Pat
Thanks for making me feel real welcoe to the group. Yes, we have really nice roads and nature here. I enjoy the FJ as often as I can, mostly weekends and during school holidays. I am a teacher so we have plenty of those to play around with. I am very happy and glad for the warm welcome and I appreciate your kind words. Enjoy the rets of your day, its already 08:35 here by us, almost time for tea and biscuits and bed. I'm relaxing with a cold beer though, hope you guys will forgive me.

Take care and enjoy

G'day Vernon,

Plenty of South African teachers out here in WA at the moment. I work in a private school with at least 10 of them! Private school though. Things are a little easier and the pay is a bit better too.
Hope you get that front mudguard sorted.

Warm regards

Richard
