its me again!!!  :good2: just a curio.... the engine is running a bit hot... think i have the wrong plugs in as a start ..( ngk de 8ea) i pretty sure that i used to run ngk 9. going to sync the carbs,( check them anyway) and i got a little chirping cricket being really quiet in my valve train, ( sounds like 3 or 4 cylinder) its not major, going to dump all oil out of it and filter new oil etc. doesnt leak!!!! took her for a run yesterday through cessnock , broke and halfway down putty...( 240 too fast on the straights? i almost left brown stains in my dacks!!!!!) she runs well, little noisy but no new noises. BUT! to the crux of the biscuit. tensioner out, apart cleaned. when i put it back in, i put the tensoner body onto the engine, tightened it down, then wound the spring and cap bolt back into the tensioner. I dont see that it could "over" stretch the cam chain, or put excessive pressure on cams  but ... its just at the back of my brain and its bugging me. how do you guys put yours in? all together with the spring and all assembled and then try to hold it all back while you put it in?

For what it's worth, I'm running NGK DP8EA-9 in my stock 89 motor.  No noticeable 'hot' issues, granted no stop and go traffic for me, and temperatures here don't often go above 85* F  (30* C) .  Also, I'm rarely tach-ing above 6000 rpm--not for any extended period of time anyway. No 240 on the straights for me.  I will say at that speed, your air cooled engine should be getting plenty of air!

You're assembling the tensioner the correct way.  No way to install it all pre-assembled,  You have to install the base with the tensioner plunger retracted all the way, then install the spring and cap.

cool thanks david... just a touch paranoid...( all those years of weed smoking catching up to me!!!!) yeah the 240 was a "lets just see" only the once.... that was well enough...it is getting warmer and more humid here so i will just put fresh oil in it and keep an eye on it.
cheers again

The fj engine can be a bit noisy even when everything is fine.

if you really want to know how hot it is you can put a oil temp gauge on it. :morning1:
