So what is everyone buying their FJ for Christmas?

Hey there Pat,

Naw, What you think is wallpaper are actually deck chair mattress pads in for the winter rains.  They just seem to fit there better.  And they do look great, don't they?      

Because the house is all of 2 years old, they make garages with the walls finished.  My wife and I have rentals and the carpet is from one of those units that had to have the carpert replaced.  So, instead of just throwing it out, we carpeted the garage.    Nicer on the feet but have to be more carefull about doing work out there.  So alot of cardboard is used.

Garth, be super interesting to me when you diagnose that resting LHS leak - I notice mine is doing the same. It's not much, so it'll have to be an easy fix else doubt I'll bother with it.

I'm not sure if this applies to either of the cases here, but I noticed a drip of oil on the ground immediately below the shift linkage this morning.
Turns out it is a wee bit of excess filter oil coming off the UNI dual pods......just happens to drop onto the rubber boot on the shift linkage and then onto the ground (bike on sidestand)

Nah - I think they are talking about the countershaft seal.  My 89 has been doing it a little bit for years.  Others can chime in who have replaced it - but I believe it is a severe pain in the ass - splitting the cases I think.  I do remember someone once on the yahoo list saying they were able to do it without splitting the cases - but I think BS was called.  Anyway - I have only a minor recollection of this - and no actual knowledge - so those who have done it please chime in!

I already did...and in a car where there is not much room. The bike would be wide open and much easier.

I ran it for a few minutes and noticed it appeared to be coming from the trans seal. I replaced it again since he used a drift to drive it in and it looked pretty beat. Ran it again and the same amount of oil leak. It was definitely coming from the output shaft area, not the pushrod or shifter.

Carbs are going on a trip to SC for a rebuild from ebay guy 'oldskoolcarbs' (Rich West).  I've clean 'em, I've put in shiny SS bolts, I've replaced parts ... just can't seem to get them dialled in right.  'SILVERGOAT' on this list purchased a set of carbs from Rich and said they were great.  I'm hoping for the same experience with a rebuild.

I believe it was Klavdy who posted the information on replacing the CS seal.

He used the smallest three jaw puller he could find and reversed the fingers so they pointed outward.  Then worked them between the seal and CS and pulled the seal out.  After that he carefully installed the new one.

Something has been leaking oil onto my chain for quite a while and the excess collects on the end of my chain guard and inside the sprocket cover.  Never been really bad but now that it's a visible drip I can't have that when I park my FJ next to my boss's Harley.

How's it going to look when a FJ leaks oil and his Harley does not.

Garth, that sounds like the go!  Please take a few pics when you do it and let us know how it went.  I really should do mine as well.  It has been leaking a touch since I bought it.  No drips or anything ever - but the inside of the CS cover really fills up with "gunk".

$175.  I could not justify buying a new set (much as I wanted to), so this seemed a good option.  The carbs are still in the bike; there's some family stuff going on (sick out-of-town relatives) that's keeping me out of the garage.

What do you suggest?
