Who has a winter project in plans for this year?

I bought Klavdy's wreck and most of the parts to rebuild/upgrade from Ritt.  Go pick it up after T-day and work on getting it ready for spring.  I'll ride my '90 when conditions allow.  The '90 just got an oil and filter change from M1 to Swepco and it is happy and healthy.  Found the Wix filter for 2000 Honda Civic is the perfect fit for Randy's spin on filter base.

I've got it bad right now! 

Making some progress on getting my wife to keep the '90...  but likely selling next spring in case anyone might be looking.

Take the fairing off to fix the stupid broken tach, replace a bulb in the right side of the display, try to get my gas gauge to stop bouncing, paint my fairing panels (or whatever you call the black piece that has the choke and reserve switch on it), get some new bars, get some new bar ends, get a new master cylinder, remove and lube my motor mounts, fabricate some new tabs for my front fender, tune my suspension, convince myself I don't need a new rear wheel, convince myself I do need a new rear wheel, convince my wife I need a new rear wheel, get some new springs, mess with the suspension a bit, try to figure out how I am going to ride from Vermont to Colorado with my wife next summer (where am I going to put her coffee pot), polish everything I can think of (which is a lot, at this point), consider repainting the whole bike, consider buying a different FJ and using the one I have for parts, replace the valve cover gaskets, take random things apart to see if I can rebuild them, rebuild the carbs, etc....

1. ditch the Yamaha ECU on my '07 XJR and get the microtech on, mapped and running.

2. then mount 43 mm throttle bodies and get them dialled up.

3. stick one of my heads in the mill and drill some nozzle ports beside the spark plugs.

3. continue with reverse flowed cylinder head project for the salt lake car.

4. work out where to cut the gearbox off to drive into hydrostatic drive pump for salt lake car.

Now that's just mean... 

I got a nail in the rear tire last week and the local shop won't patch it; may as well store the FJ until the spring. The carbs will be shipped to Rick in SC for a rebuild (the oldskoolcarbs guy on ebay).  I've taken them apart and cleaned them a few times, but I can't seem to get them dialled in just right. 

I'm sure I'll think of a few more things to change while I'm at it.

Gonna strip and repaint and replace vinyl graphics on the chin fairing. Had some plastic welding done earlier this summer to patch a couple of cracks, and my quickie painting skills suck.
Gonna do it right this time.

Few things to do this winter are a front wheel swap, new bearings and rubber. Fzr rear wheel swap , rebuild carbs and clutch. Another part of the project if there is time, is to fix some cracks in the plastics and paint. On the distant horizon is new rear suspension and new internals for the forks, although those will be a ways off yet.

winter projects are tough to get done here in california , cause any time the sun is out I gotta ride.

however I am gonna try to get a few things done. like wash the fj . chase down the rattles in the faring. clean and lube all the moving parts . grease the swing arm. ect. nothing major.

Rebuild an 1100 engine and get it running right for possible use if there is a CO rally.  Go through said 1100 and make sure all is well.  Already has the wheel and brake upgrades.

As far as my bike.. well.. I'll have to see what I can do..

As far as the rear wheel mod went with my wife, I told her that since Dunlop stopped making the D205 tire, there was nothing I considered safe in the 16" tire size.  So she agreed to that logic and my 90 GSXR rear wheel and brake parts are on the way here.  

BTW, I plan on taking lots of pics of my wheel swap and posting them.  That'll really clear up alot of questions about that mod.

 No such thing as a "winter" project in S.AZ.    So I need to get the free-to-me Suzuki Intruder on the road so I have something to ride. Otherwise, I can't take the FJ down for some needed maintenance...... With so much warm sunshine, it's extremely difficult to find time to actually WORK on the bikes..... too much RIDING time available.   

Hell, it was high 70s today, will be for the rest of the month.

I've seen winter.

The wife and I were in the USA from end Dec '08 till early March '09.  In fact, we celebrated new year's eve just north of San Francisco.  We travelled (drove - didn't have a bike there like Klavdy) from California to Texas, flew to Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Boston and New York - all cold.

Anyway, during our "winter" next year, we plan to spend 4 weeks in California, hoping to take in Laguna Seca.
