I have a couple of cracked/split air intake boots between airbox and carbs, ie No's 1 and 4 to be precise.
Mine is a 3XW 1200.
For now I have sealed them with some RTV silastic.

I read somewhere that earlier model air intake boots perform better?  Anyone know of this?

Thanks,

Bill.

Bill,

I don't know about the intake boots, but the manifolds for some of the Japanese FJ's were restricted.  If your's is a grey market Japanese bike you might want to check this out.

Not sure you'd want to use RTV silicone on there, as gasoline will dissolve it.......you might end up right where you started.
There are other sealants out there that are gasoline resistant.

The boots are on the airbox side, not the cylinder side, so should be little or no fuel.

Arnie, how do you tell if it is a Jap grey market bike?

Bill, the speedo will only read to 180KPH on the grey imports.
There is a reflector on the rear mudguard that hangs down below the lip and is attached with 2 rivets.
The intake manifolds have an I/D of 28mm as opposed to 32mm on most other models.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Not mine then.
Thanks Harvy.
