I know I'm not the first to do this, but the rear grab bars get the black finish rubbed off when I use my saddle bags, so I stripped them and polished them.

Next thing you know, he'll be polishing the black off the mufflers...

If it can be confirmed that they are Stainless steel, that is exactly what I have been wanting to do!  :wacko1:

Leon, they're not. I assure you.

Just have to chrome them then! Leon, what are you going to do all winter when you run out of stuff to polish? Or is the engine next?

I may not be polishing much more, but I do have other things to work on for next summer.
I'm currently working on my 17" rear wheel mod, and I keep a constant eye on things for sale that I'd like to add or modify the bike with.
It's been real fun owning this bike since this past March because I have never been into the mods with my other bikes I've owned in the past as much as I have been with the FJ.
I try to balance my own personal tastes without going over the top, and still keep the look of the bike respectable.

I'd really like to get a pair of those SS mufflers that are made in the UK at some point!
Just wish companies supported the FJ with twin slip-ons, like so many other newer bikes are.

I'm almost certain that Staintune still make SS slip-ons for the FJ.  Noel who I think goes by the name Ribbert has a set on his '92.

i have only heard a full staintune setup one time on a FJ and they ARE sweet..... dang shame they are so expensive.

you can still pickup Supertrapp universal SS silencers that can be fit onto a FJ.... of course new mid pipes would have to be fabricated but the net effect would be similar to the staintune setup.

KOokaloo!

Interested in an old set of Kerker K series slip-ons? They aren't stainless, but aluminum can be polished to look just as shiny. :nyam1:

As Arnie said. I have a pair of Staintune SS slipons on my '93. Beautifully made, excellent quality SS, can always be brought back to "as new", the right period look, BUT, Ooooooh so quiet!  Mine were bought in '95 ($800!) and have fixed baffles. At some point they changed to removeable ones, I don't know when. Anyway, the point of this post is, if you lust after a set and ever come across some secondhand (and presumeably want a bit of noise) make sure you know what you're getting.
