At the dealership where I work, I run my impact wrench without the exhaust baffle
AND IT'S LOUD.
Some of the guys whine that it's too loud.
I tell them it's just the same reason Harleys are so excessively loud and serve no usefull purpose!

I JUST WANNA BE LOUD!    LOL!

I live in western north carolina and during the summer it takes no time to run up on a group of these slow ass road hogging HD ridders. They have already ruined the dragon. You have to get out there in the mornings to have fun.By lunch time they are all over the place. They are not designed for curvey roads. What a no fun piece of shit.

I think in the spring I'll have to go to the Harley dealer on an undercover mission and make up my own mind. I've never ridden one so I can't judge the riding experience. I wonder if I can keep a straight face if they start to lay on the sales pitch!

I rode a brand new Standard soft tail, and I wasn't impressed!

That nicely describes my two riding experiences on Harleys. When I twist the throttle I expect something more than noise to happen. Oh, that's right, it's not a throttle - it's a volume control. A motorcycle with a 5000 rpm red line? Seriously?

I have ridden several of them (harley's) over the years. I have always been surprised how many owners who are willing to let others ride their bike to sample the cool aid. Some were better than others but not one of them ever made me want to go buy one. I just dont like heavy, slow, loud bikes with bad brakes. JMO

Hyperformance 222" Street Pro Motor

This one will probably never see the showroom floor.I can't/won't dispute was has been written so far.But we deal with a wide range of "harley" riders. But we do get to work on some pretty wild bikes owned by some pretty nice people.Even I have to admit there is something wild about riding something with over 100#/ft of torque just off idle. The engine in the video makes around 275hp / 300#ft.Randy (in the video) is one off the pioneers in big inch Harleys. He is great to talk with and has some very colorful stories. Not really the classic harley rider.

Wow Glenn, that is WAY beyond the average custom! Any of your work on those heads? ( Did YOU leave off the cooling fins?) That is really amazing, I can't even comprehend the machine work to build a motor from scratch. 2-1/2" Intake valves? Where are those from? When I heard 5-5/16" bore all I could imagine was coffee cans in there for pistons. Bet that shakes the ground some. I wanted to hear it run, but I guess you have to be Mr. Mario for that. I'm thinking that cost more than my house.
So is that 275HP without nitrous? At 3.6L that's 75HP per liter. The archaic mass produced FJ makes 44% more at 108 HP per liter. I think the new 600's are at about 200 HP per L. I know that's petty of me, I actually do like big shiny loud things, but I was really hoping for all that custom work it would make some horrifying power.

andyb

Do remember to go by air cooled to air cooled though.  Watercooled motors get by with a lot, lot more compression than the old dogs can.

Looked it up, and the best naturally aspirated HD/style motor I could find was 180hp at 139ci (79hp/L), for just under $18k.  But when you talk power adders, I found a supposedly street-usable 350hp 139ci (153hp/L) for $23k or so.  For that money, I could easily buy a turbo busa in the 400hp range for street use....  Lotta money to make the old shit work better!

Of course, for a lot, lot more money... puma cases and a heavily worked everything else can get you comfortably over 1000hp in an FJ-based powerplant.  Not really a streetable combination, of course :)
