Side Stand

Anyone ever had to replace the side stand?  Mine looks to be a little worn at the pivot area and it seems as if it's welded to the frame.  Any solutions?  It seems that my FJ leans a little too far and I'm afraid of it falling over.  Of course I can use the center stand, but that's a PIA every time I stop somewhere.
Do not argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I replaced mine a couple years ago.... it was worn in the pivot.  Dragging on the shifter every downshift and loose and rattly. New stand got rid of all the issues... :gamer:

Process?  Did you just grind off the old one and weld on the new? Easy as that?  Remember price of stand?

Bob,

It's bolted on.  No need for an angle grinder.
You can also just shim the pivot to take out the slop.

The slop is from the steel wearing down over time.  I have actually had some success from creating a plastic "Washer" that is slotted to fit the "rounded rectangle" profile to take up some of the space.  The smoothness of the washer creates a bushing of sorts.  Depending on the plastic used - it will last for years.

I like Rich's idea of getting a new kickstand better though.  I'll have to price that out...

I didn't do anything to the frame lug, it appears to be harder, all or most of the wear was in the pivot hole in the stand.... I was considering modifying the hole by adding a wrist pin bearing from a 2-smoke, but didn't.  For most of a year I tried shimming and washers and such, nothing worked well for very long... bought the new stand and I'm MUCH happier.

Would be tempted to consider this and rebush the stand with bronze, should last near forever then.

I understand making a washer. But what do you mean about it being "slotted"?  I have access to some very durable and machinable nylon. Maybe that would work for now. Any photos of said washer setup?

Marsh, Rich and others, don't get a new sidestand just yet.

Wait for a bit.

Not to drop names, but... A guy we know as "the hippie" is gonna come up with some uber-cool extended sidestands (+1.5") for our raised FJ's.
Retention of the oem sidestand switch will be retained.

Stay tuned. Hang loose (get it?) This is gonna be worth the wait.

Any update?   :unknown: I'm getting tired of carrying a block of wood in my tank bag everywhere I go.  Plus it's embarrassing.  :rofl2:
