I standing by my thought that it is a Kerker 4-1-2 system.

Someone else has to remember them, I can not be that old, can I?

I noticed your missing a couple of the bolts that hold the canister guts (baffle) in place. Our local Ace hardware had perfect replacements on hand. I've got a couple extras, if you want them, I'll mail them to you.

A picture from the back of the canister/muffler would be nice, at least then we could confirm the canister/muffler are indeed Kerker (or not).

It was funny when I overheard a kid talking about the "new" Akropovic 4-2-1 systems a while back, heck, they've been around a while.

The biggest advantage was increased muffle volume over the 4-1 systems, as well as the asthetics of a dual exhaust system.

Its NOT a Kerker.   Before becoming a painter ,Early in my career I use to work for Kerker as one of their welders.  This is why i have more info on different exhaust systems and contacts.  I posted pictures in gallery.  Look at the "Bird Turd" welds that are on back of header in "Scott's" pics.  Its is NOT a Kerker - It is homemade job with Bassani silencers.

You may also have a Kerker baffle in a Bassani cylinder - it looks like a pieced together system just by going by quality of welds.

I truly think you are wrong, time will tell.

Others: Here is a link to a craiglisting that has a picture of another Kerker 4-1-2 system.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/1954310347.html

The picture has been uploaded to the gallery section.

I remember when the Kerker 4-1-2 systems first came out, and I do also remember the welds were nothing to be proud of.....

Looking forward to seeing those pictures of the end of the canister, if they do not look like Kerker canisters, I'll quickly say as much.

Until then, they sure look like the Kerker cans, not Bassani.

You know why they look like Kerker cans? Because it is a Kerker system.  :i_am_so_happy:

Cool - or K3WL as my son would "say".

That's 100% KERKER

Just as I remember, their infamous 4-1-2 system.

No - its not a Kerker system. Yes i will agree that it has Kerker baffles now that we have good pics.  But you are asking what System is on the bike. Your system is welded completey solid.  We would of never of done this at Kerker.  1- we could not of shipped it that way.  2- We always made a collecter slide into a collecter so if you had to remove header to change oil you wouldn't have to disassemble complete system.  3-Collecter into collecter with clamp design allows for expansion and contraction and vibration so the system wouldn't come loose everytime you rode it.  Just because someone puts Kerker baffles on doesn't make it a Kerker system - Alot of people welded y-pipes to headers then installed baffles like the pics of Suzuki.  Trust me - Listen to someone who worked for Kerker and not hobbyist - we would never weld a system solid.

I think this will end your search and debate.  I just called old owner of Kerker - who now owns starcycle.com. I left Kerker in 83 but stayed in contact with him over years and he said he NEVER made full exhaust system for fjs until 1990 and they were 4 into 1 systems.  He worked along side with Supertrapp because they already had the "Tooling" since 84 for the fjs - 4 into 1 systems -and sold Kerker to Supertrapp 1991 - so like he said the 90 4 into 1 system was assentially a supertrapp with a Kerker baffle.  Regardless,  Enjoy your FJ and glad i could set you straight.

Thanks for the additional pictures, they confirm the canisters are bolt on and that the system is not a one piece welded system.

It's a beautiful vintage exhaust, odds are it is one of the few remaining KERKER full 4-1-2 systems.

Bottom line, it is an aftermarket system, not stock.

I've been involved with motorcycles sinces the seventies, just like many of the members in here.

A lot has changed, and a lot has remained the same.
