I remember about 18 years ago,  Big John, a 6'5" Chinese fellow had those rims on his FJ. (or rims just like them)
We, along with Dooby Ray, toured Arizona with the Arizona FJ folks. Had a great time.

I wonder how much they weigh?

I would venture a guess..about half the weight of a factory wheel. It looks like the cush drive is eliminated, I bet these would make good drag bike wheels.

Does anyone know if those will bolt on my '89?

Oh my, no - no!

It's starting......

Already got things set up to snipe that auction... they do look like they'd make good drag wheels :)

Good, I'll run up the price for ya....wonder how high I can get it before your Snipe bails? (kidding)

I can't see how a rear rim with no cush rubber is gonna be good on the street, let alone your chain/sprockets.

I'm running a solid PM wheel with no cush rubber.  Has not been an issue so far, but I'm an old fart, easy going rider.

I was at the NEFJ rally, and I didn't see any old fart easy going riding and I rode sweep. I did see a little, mind you a very little slow down enough not to go directly to jail riding. But it was lots fun

OK. Busted.

Guess the lack of cush rubber in my 18/46 tooth setup is not an issue.  I do think I feel more of a 'shock' when shifting abruptly, so I strive for smooth.

And yes... that was one excellent ride  :good2:

Heh heh... looks like someone got half a set of wheels! Too bad they weren't listed as a set.

Yeap! That's why I never bid on a set of whatever if the items are split up and are listed in separate auctions. You just can't be sure you're gonna' win them both.

No cush drive is OK on the street.  I'd prefer to have a cush drive, but haven't had problems without.  So far I've also been using aluminum sprockets on it (haven't found steels as a standard item anywhere yet - but not too worried about it either) so I'd think that helps cushion it slightly - at the expense of sprocket life of course.

And yes, I DID scuff 'em down and paint 'em black!

how about a closeup of your shock linkage ?

what style did you go with ?

fj1289

Frank,

a few years ago I went with the link and shock from a '94 FZR1000.  Two lines of thought on it - the FZR shock is rebuildable (I did swap in the stock FJ spring), and the linkage is less progressive than the FJ linkage (about 10% progression rate vice 20% with the stock linkage as I recall -- I modelled the linkages in a rear suspension program sold by Tony Foale).  I still need to upgrade the fork springs and then start tweaking the suspension on both ends.  No pics of this linkage yet - but did have to cut off the centerstand mounts to make room for the FZR linkage.  Oh yeah, third line of thought - it was fairly cheap too!

The linkage on the dragbike is another frankenstein - it uses an adjustable prolink and an elka drag shock - both spec'd for a busa.

I've had to move the adjustment about 3/4 of the way forward to keep it from bottoming on launch.  Lots of tuning still to go - after I get a new clutch in it ...

What I've read on the prolink - moving the adjustment forward or aft changes the leverage ratio on the shock similar to changing the spring rate on the shock.  Looking at the stock FJ linkage - it has almost no leverage for the shock so the spring has to do all the work.  Makes sense with how heavy a spring rate Traxxion Dynamics reccommends for the FJ.  The FZR linkage looks like it would give the shock more leverage and require less heavy of a spring.  Unfortunately the Tony Foale suspension program I had is an old version now and also died with my old laptop so I can't go play with linkages in it anymore.

If anyone is interested in the FZR linkage, I'll try to get some pics up.

HOLY CRAP THOSE WENT CHEAP!!!!!

I'm sure glad I didn't see those auctions, I'd of had a second pair and would have to find something to put them on! :sarcastic:
