Thought I'd say hi. Just got my first FJ (1987 1200) today, to be exact. I went through some of this site before actually buying one I was looking at to get an idea of what I was getting in to. A good online community and passionate owners helped sway me towards the actual purchase. They've always been on my radar but just never found the right time/price/etc moment until now. Since I'm in a position to really only have one bike right now I wanted a good all arounder and I think I'm going to be pretty happy with the big FJ. Especially when rolling on the gas! Anyway, Hi to all and happy riding!

I'm in the Hudson, WI area (20 minutes east of St. Paul, MN).  Pretty good shape and rides pretty nice for the price, especially. I was a little worried about the buzziness but it's at least as good if not better than a Concours I had years back. Faster too, and really close in the comfort department.

i have a 86 (same as 87 except for color) and i suggest a good (and regular) carb sync's... Synching the carbs does wonders for the buzziness except for right around 4000 RPM (about 55mph is 5th gear) which is where the FJ lump has an inherent harmonic.

i usually ride around the harmonic by staying in 4th gear for 55mph zones to keep the RPM's up in the FJ's sweet spot @ 5000rpm

Got a chance to stretch it's legs a little last night after work. The things got serious grunt! My last two bikes were a TX750 and an SR500, so something a bit more modern is kind of nice. The SR was a sweet little bike but on straightaways a bit wheezy. The TX was pretty and smooth, actually acceptable performance when everything worked, but that's when it all worked. The FJ is the perfect cross between my old 86 VFR and the Concours I had after that. With more kookoloo everywhere than either! Did I use the term correctly? Sounded OK. Got work to do on it before any serious miles can be had next spring, but she's a good runner. I'm sure I'll be using other areas of the site as I start wrenching and get in over my head!

Got in too deep, ran out of talent....

you got it right !   :good2:

that sweet engine is what made me fall for the big ol' FJ and that introduced me to the wonderful world of modifying in order to bring the handling and braking more in line with today's bikes.

synch those carbs good and enjoy the ride my friend!

KOokaloo!
