Rear Shock ??

Is there a rear shock off another bike that would work on my 93FJ that would not take major modifications to make work. I have read that one off a GSXR or CBR 600 might work. I just don't have $1000.00 to blow on a Penske shock.
I have installed the Race-Teck emmulators and 1 K. springs in my front forks and would like to get the rear suspension up to speed without spending and arm and leg to do it.
Thanks
Mark H.

 Thanks Ed.
I had read that post -- would love to have the Penske shock but I don't have that kind of cash to throw around at this time.
Just trying to Improve the rear suspension some without breaking the bank. Think I can get the valving dialed in without to much cost as I can do the tear down myself and know a guy that does rebuilding and revalving of shocks
Just trying to find a shock that gives a little more adjustment  options ( compression and rebound ) than the stocker and that I don't have to try and reinvent the wheel so to speak to make fit.

Mark,  I should have updated that post.  I don't have the GSXR shock anymore.  It went to the aluminum recycling plant down the road.  It was worth it for the satisfaction of trashing it.  :drinks:

I just installed an 05 FZ1 rear shock on my 89. Toni(the Aussie) at Race Tech does all custom work there. He and I spoke extensively and he used the stock shock for a base line. He had Eibach make a 21.4 kg. weight spring and a billet lower spring seat. They installed their own valving based on an FJR recipe and had to shorten it just a smidgen. They did a full shock dyno testing regiment and sent all specs. with shock. Toni and I have an agreement, no further charges for any future changes including valving or spring rate. I have great respect for Toni, he nailed it as far as I am concerned. I have pictures of install I will post this week. Only mod to bike is to cut off lower battery box mount and then notch top shock mount for reservoir. you will also need to make .300" inch spacers for each side of top shock. Total cost with return shipping was $570. Rode it today, money well spent. Period. Used FZ1 shock from ebay:$50-$75. Race-tech custom work:$550. Being able to corner again:Priceless!

 Thanks Silvergoat.
Looking forward to the pictures. Sounds like a great option -- at less than half the price of the Penske shock.
Thanks

Retails?

does that mean if you have connections you can get it for less?

Not a bad price really, and it bolts right on.

I don't have that kind of connections, but I have seen sales.

Hmmm, any Convict Scum contemplating getting one(the 8983, not the cheaper Sports Shock) should be aware that you MAY get stung for import duty as it is worked out on the price PLUS shipping.
Sometimes it is better to get it sent to one of those places that forward things on to you, they'll put it down as used or whatever,

I'm finally ready to order one, it would be nice if a sale were to come along.     :good:

Does anyone know if I would have clearance issues with installing the FZ1 shock on my 93 as I have the ABS pump located in that general area.
Thanks

Mark,
If you post a picture of your bike with the battery box removed, I'll tell you what you will need to do to make the FZ1 shock work. I will try to post pictures of my bike this week, not really sure how to do it, but I'll try. It is really pretty easy. Race Tech knows what they are doing as long as you tell them what you are doing. Toni has a first generation GXS-R and some other cool bikes. He understands experiments. He does all the shocks for those who want to stretch and lower their bike. Good guy. I am just happy to have tried something different and that it all seems to have worked out. Good luck with which ever way you decide to go.
