Fork seals open side up?

I'm resealing my forks, reading the Climer manual it states "install seal open side up" with a picture which is impossible to see because it's black and white. I read it four times because I can't believe what I'm reading. I'm removing non-spring seals which are open side down and installing springs seals. The Climer manual apperas to be illustrating spring seals. I did notice that my seals (K&L brand) are chamfered on the top (closed side) and have a small lip on the bottom. This would support installing them upside down. Anyone?

That is a well-known error in the Clymer manual... open side down.

It's not the only one, I just can't think of the others right now.

Oh, and a lot of guys here will tell ya not to mess with anything but OEM seals.  I agree with them.

The Clymer manual illustrates the "flower pot" installed upside down. It also says to install the spring with the closer coils to the top. I believe I read somewhere the closer coils go to the bottom.
