yeah, not exactly sure of the right name..left hand side cover, also need the rotor and pick ups (again not certain of names).

andyb

Start by going to a parts fische and seeing what they are :)

Here is the rotor/pickup diagram.

Here is the diagram for the covers, the one you want is the bottom left of the picture.

Oh, and you'll need to go in there and measure.  If it did enough damage to take the rotor out, it'd be no shock to find the crankshaft has been bent.

Jevan........ I have most of the motor from my parts bike...... If you identify what you need, let me know if I can help.

I'm up on the Sunshine Coast Qld.

cheers harvy and andyb,
definately need cover, after that I can't be certain- I think it's fair to say.
Hopefully this picture works(and is clear enough), if not hopefully the link below will.

This photo shows what is left.  To my knowledge(as I didn't pull it down), there are not other parts. So the rest, and what's damaged, needs to be purchased.  Is anyone able to tell me what I need and/or what looks to be damaged?

Thanks guys.

Jevan........ looks like there are a couple of cover bolt holes that are broken on the case?....hard to tell...pic is a bit out of focus.
Yes I have a cover for you and the internals under it if necessary.
It would appear that your Oil filter housing is missing also........ got one of them too.....

send me a PM mate and we can work something out.

hey,
yeah couple of bolts snapped off in casing.  Don't think they'll be too hard to get out.oil filter housing all good, just taken off.
definately need part 1(base, pickup) in linked diagram not sure about 2(rotor). rotor looks good to me but needs further inspection and sounds like it might be wise to through in gear and spin back wheel.

Some times if the screws have not been out, the loctite on the factory bolts can be a pain so a little heat to loosen the loctite is needed.

thanks bob, not ready to do it yet but will keep that in mind.  want to chase up the majority of parts first.

Harvy

OK Jevan, I've finally got around to pulling those parts out of the spare engine.

Looks like the parts were changed considerably between Gen1 and Gen3 FJs.

Gen1 - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1984/FJ1100L/PICKUP%20COIL%20GOVERNOR/parts.html
Gen3 - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1990/FJ1200A/PICK%20UP%20COIL%20-%20GOVERNOR/parts.html

So I'm not sure if these parts are going to work for you.
I'm pretty sure the cover will be ok.
Does anyone know if the '90 parts are going to work in an '84 ?

Cheers

hmmm...thanks mate, I see what you mean...bugger

fjpigtobe

was going to question whether anything could be modified to fit gen 3.  But as the plugs different I imagine it would be more hassle than it's worth.

fjpigtobe

well, got my forks today..$220. will now do the seals just because it will be easier now than if ever they need doing in future.

does any one know if buying fork seals off ebay is recommended?

Harvy has been a champion and spotted me a side cover and pick-up and rotor-thanks mate...but the pick-up and rotor are gen 3 as opposed to gen 1.  Would i be able to cut and connect the plugs so the gen 3 parts fit the gen 1 signal box?

weymouth399

The 84-87 take a different p/u plate and rotor than the later models.
86 plate has two pick ups on it and the later model have one.
Also the rotors are also different, being that the p/u are different.
I have plenty of rotors, but no good stater plates.
If you use these parts you will need the CDI box also and change alot of connectors.
Hope this helps
