Where do you guys buy parts for our old, out of date, hard to find, FJs?
I just don't think my local dealer gives a shit about the OLD FJs and it leaves me with the feeling that if I'm not there buying parts for a 09 or newer, whatever, I'm just wasting my time.

So, online the way to go?

Maybe its just my dealership!
Just not real thrilled with the way I'm treated when dealing with the "old" FJ1200.

Must be that good customer service only comes when they are selling you parts for bikes "they" want to sell!

End Rant! :ireful:

I think they are the current leading best price out there for OEM Yamaha parts.

Randy!  -- i.e. racerrad8

Compared to ANY online discount place I've seen - Randy's prices are lower by far - far enough I'm concerned he won't make enough profit to keep supplying parts!  He's mostly engine related stuff, but if he carries it / can get it, he is the one to get it from.  Plus, he's helpful as hell, very experienced with these lumps, and has great advice.

I've been ordering my parts thru a local Yamaha dealer, not because I like them but because it's convenient. I told a friend of mine where I was ordering my parts and he stated he never goes there because he got bad vibes from them the one time he went there. I now know exactly what he was referring to. I've spent some serious money there in the last couple of month's and I'm still the invisible man when standing at the parts counter waiting to pick up $1200. worth of parts. A phone call when my parts arrive would be nice touch also. Like I said before, the only reason I do business with these clowns is because it's convenient, in case I need to return something or there is a dispute it is face to face, otherwise I loath going there, it's very painfull. Fortunately I won't have to deal with them much longer if at all.

I have been getting most of my Yamaha parts from Zanotti's for years, super easy to buy on-line. I get much lower prices than the local stealer who doesn't have a clue about FJ's and the parts come right to my door. That being said for my carb parts I have had great pricing and service from Randy Racerrad8 on this sight. He is straight forward, knowledgeable and a damn good fellow. In fact he sent me a set of needle valve O-rings last year for free. He wouldn't even allow me to pay for postage or the o-rings. That's top notch no doubt.....

There are options from the parts kid at the local dealer, who doesn't know anything and has that wonderful I don't care attitude.. Shop where your dollar makes a difference to someone you trust.. JMO

Interesting! Here in the UK I can go to any Jap dealer (even if they're not focused on Yamaha) and have no problem getting bits. Why,only a coupla years back I sauntered into the local Honda shop and enquired about a rear camchain guide - "no problem squire,be here tomorrow". And it was! In fact, everyone I've met in 'the trade' seem to have all the time in the world to talk fondly of FJ's,how they used to have one and rued the day they sold it etc etc. Nah,no problems here...

I've had "reasonable" service from the local Yamaha dealer, in that they were not abusive or rude.  However, they carry almost nothing in stock, want payment up front, charge twice the price or more than buying from Randy or Zanotti, and the parts arrive quicker from US than from local dealer here in Australia.
Shame this is the reality as I'd like to support the dealer so I can look at new bikes, but not when they rip me off.

Cheers,
Arnie

When I need it quicker, Bikebandit,  if it can wait 2 weeks, cheapcycleparts. Done lots of business with both zero problems.  I will not even enter my local dealers parking lot.  Amazing they stay in business.  Once I went in there prepared to pay CASH for a new bike they had in stock. (C14) Treated like I was invisible and then I was gone. I would never trust a shop or a dealer to work on my bikes.  When I need to learn, I hit the library and the net and study the manual.

i go to my local yamaha dealer in my city in new zealand which are great to deal with, nothing is to much trouble, prices seam resable(most of the time), always call when parts have arrived or been delayed.most parts they order in (2-3 days to get here or 5 days from japan ) i understand as i order some unusual parts for my 84 fj.
the parts dept staff are very friendly seem to know every customer by first name and bike model (before you say anything) and this is a very large dealership.
can't been happier with the service.

Our local dealer here is great, one of the oldest in the nation and family owned.

I was surprised the did not have the oil filter o-rings on hand, the bigger one, but they ordered it up for me.

Anything I can buy locally I do.

If dealers were more like this, I would attend more than just admiring their new bikes from time to time.

Interesting that some of you have had similar problems as I.
I guess my main bitch comes from having to pre-pay for an order less than $20, and then NEVER getting the call when the parts are in, even after being told that was exactly what they were going to do.
I put off riding to work all week, waiting for the call that never came, and on Friday, I decided to take the chance and call them to see if my parts were there...of course they were...strange, never got a call to pick up myprepaid parts!
And to be quit honest about this whole dealership thing, I hate the attitude that I ride such an old motorcycle as my 1991 FJ!
Shit, I moved up from a 1982 Suzuki for christ sake! LOL! Seems alot newer to me!
I know I've always been behind the times, but do I have to be treated like that when money is coming out of my pocket?

Thanks guys for your thoughts and input.
And for those of you that have great dealerships in your area, be thankful, things could be worse!

A lot of great points - I like to prepay for special order parts, makes pick up that much quicker, more time to spend looking around or talking with the people at the dealership.

"Old" bike, funny, I prefer the "seasoned" "UJM's" of years gone by over the majority of "new" motorcycles.

I had a 1980 Suzuki - a few years ago.......

Still have a 1975 Honda CB750 that I use for a drag bike. Open 4-1, sounds great, runs OK for what it is.

Here is a video from last year, listen close, you can hear the clutch crying...

Also, 1982 GL500, that was a good bike (slow though)
