I installed my 5000k High/low HID kit. :greeting:
I finally found a clean install location for the electronics.
Here is a pic of  2 of three "black boxes".
One tie wrapped to the frame behind the headlight and the other screwed to the side of the same frame bracket.
Much better then double sticking or using glue to attach it to the inside of the fairing.

And what a difference in lighting... but I need to install a inline switch so I can turn it off while idling for longer periods... I don't know how the drain on the battery during idling. :wacko3:
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

Looks good.

Why not temporarily install an ammeter inline with the battery, and see what's happening while it idles in the garage?  Heck, some really good multimeters could handle that (mine won't, I'm a cheapskate... and the current draw from the starter would be bad, so you'd have to get it between the battery and rest of bike, but not between the battery and starter solenoid).

HID lamps draw less current than a standard Halogen lamp.

It takes about 6 amps at start up to ignite the lamp (i.e. create the arc).  Once it's lit, the 55w kit uses a little over 1 amp less current than a standard 60w Halogen and the 35w kit uses even less.

So no worries on draining your battery.

 only 1 amp???
Maybe my battery is boarder line and I left the light on a bit too long with the engine not running while I admired my (handy work) LOL  :sarcastic:

I just did the same thing on my 89 FJ.  Here is where I put mine:

With the 35w kit being so cheap there really isn't a reason to do the relay mod anymore.

Very true!  I left my relays on because I have the high beam wired to a 3 way switch and a flasher.  On/Off/Flashing.  It was just easier to leave them hooked up right now.

By the way - the 5 times per second flashing looks REALLY cool with the HID - because the bulb goes totally dark between flashes like a strobe light - whereas a regular bulb still has light output.  I'm sure that will shorten the life of my bulb - but I only use it sparingly when lane splitting on the freeways anyway - people think I'm a cop and give me a little more room - when they aren't text messaging on their cell phones...

It is out of control.  Things added on top of each other over the years...everything works great...but could use an overhaul to cleanup.  Here is a list of the electrical mods that I can think of:

- Widder electronic thermostat for heated riding gear
- custom volt meter in dash
- custom gear indicator in dash
- back lit oil temp gauge
- low and high beam headlight relays for full power to circuit
- horn relay for full power to horn
- Cigarette lighter socket for AUX if needed while traveling under fairing
- GPS power hardwired to cig socket controlled by fuel reserve switch (also voltage meter controlled by same switch)
- XM satellite radio hard wired in
- Starcom bike to bike and rider to passenger intercom system with push to talk button and bluetooth for wireless cell phone
- high beam headlight switch with on/off/flash (5 times per second) positions
- battery tender connection
- brake lights in rear GIVI trunk added
- HID headlight

I really need to buy one of these http://www.bikeeffects.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AP-1 to clean up the wires on my battery terminals.
