Guys,

Great news — the bike has been recovered!

The police found it ditched about 10 minutes away from us. The ignition was removed, but the bike is still in one piece.

What a relief... whoo!

Still can't believe that happened.

Thank you everyone for keeping an eye on it  :morning1:

MarioR,
Hooray!  :yahoo:  :good2:  :i_am_so_happy:

You prolly needed some new keys anyway. Happy trails.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

wow that's great news! and kind of a surprising ending, I wonder if it was a joy ride or if somebody realized moving a rare bike on the black market will be difficult.

Ok time to put a GPS tracker on it, a padlock on the rotor and a security camera facing it whenever it's parked.

Looks like they took it just to try to make a couple of bucks for drugs... unfortunately  :negative:

They damaged the ignition but weren't able to start the bike. They also tried to remove the seat, but it looks like that didn't work either. They even tried using a pry bar on the tank... no luck

Basically, they didn't really know what to do with it. Since it was posted everywhere, they probably decided it was better to ditch it than deal with the consequences.

After several failed attempts, they gave up and left it.

Definitely getting an Apple tracker and keeping it stored inside from now on  :morning1:

Yes, it is, Pat. When I was trying to take over the bike, we couldn't agree on a price with the seller. Just as I was ready to move forward, the bike was stolen... so it was pretty discouraging.

Regarding the bike itself, there isn't significant damage—mainly the ignition and a few scratches from what looks like a pry bar.

Of course, every mark makes me think about repainting it in the future, but that might be a bit too picky.

I've completed a full inspection of the bike, and there are a few things that need attention before it's roadworthy.

1. Oil and brake fluid leaks — oil is leaking from the spin-on filter and shifter cover. Brake fluid is leaking from the clutch slave, so a rebuild kit is needed. Do you guys use RPM/Yamaha OE seal replacements, or an aftermarket kit that includes the pushrod seal?

2. Valve cover gasket is leaking as well, so that will need to be replaced.

3. Front tire is completely worn out, so I'll be replacing both with new Dunlop Q5A's. The local dealer has them on sale right now, so it's a good time to do both.

4. Front forks need new seals. I'll check if the tubes are still straight—tire wear suggests they might be slightly off, or it could just be from the leaking seal.

5. Full service — new fluids, filters, plugs, etc.

6. New ignition — luckily I have a donor bike, so I can swap parts over 👍

7. Shifter rod linkage is broken, so that will need replacement.

8. Front rotors are about 80% worn, so new rotors and pads will be coming soon.

9. We'll see what else comes up as I go through it.

10. Overall cleanup and polishing to finish it off.

Thanks
