Billions of years ago, there was a huge explosion and long story short, the Earth was formed...
Then some other shite happened, there were some really big Lizards knocking about, then some Nazis created some 'issues', and more recently there's been some strangely coloured politicians...
Sometime between the latter two events, I bought a lovely, totally original, Fj1200 (3CV).
Then, one day, something REALLY bad happened... I decided it would look better black.
Although, on balance, I regretted my choices, it looked okay, and they all lived happily...for 18 months after. Then divorce and poverty decided to come and stay with me for a wee awile...
That too did pass... but poor old Yammie lived outside, baking in the southern Spanish sun for 10 years.
And oh my... doesn't she look rough now...

But today marks the start of her metaphorical jog through Philadelphia's Italian market and eventual ascent to the top of the steps outside the Museum of Art.
Today her strip and restoration begins. And with the help of you, good people, I have every confidence in its ultimate success.
First, I'm gonna make sure the engine runs and is, in principle, still sound - sorta Joe-from-'2Vintage'-stylee, then strip her, have the frame blasted and powder-coated, and from then on I think you'll all be sick of hearing from me with all my questions.

We love a good project thread. Show us the good, the bad, the ugly. Then how it cleaned up. No shortage here in getting help resurrecting the FJ.

And welcome to our digital campfire.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome back Jay, great story, thanks!

Regardless of the current color and condition, the important point I noticed is that, thru your life changes, you held on to your FJ...that tells us everything. Kudos to you!

We have heard several stories of FJ owners who sold their FJ's only to regret their decision and now, several decades later, they have returned to being a FJ owner. They all have said the same thing, "I should have never sold my first FJ".

Let's us know how we can help you.

If I can make a suggestion, go to your forum profile and in your signature block put in that you have a 1989 FJ1200...that info will then automatically appear in all your posts and so you won't have to remind us and we can give you accurate info on your specific FJ.

Cheers

Pat

I will, pal :-) and thanks for the welcome...really looking forward to doing it. I've rebuilt an old crosser before but this will be the first time on a more complex bike... but I'm well up for it!! :-)

Thanks Buddy, I really appreciate the kind words and the warm welcome.
That's definately good advice and I will make an effort set up[ my profile properly.

Yeah, I never sell a bike, I have a few others but my FJ was my first, I've had it since 2003 and it'd take a really serious catastrophe to make me sell it...The FJ would be the very last thing to go.
There's somethings you just need in your life... and with the twin n.eta cans, it's got a voice like a horny angel, when it actually ran ... and you gotta have that soundtrack on tap :-)
