Freaking tach acting up again

Gents,

My tach has been playing nice for a couple months now, then this morning I'm shifting at 12k again. Am I the only on that has had the tach read double? I checked everything I can think of, I am at the point it has to be the tach itself. I really don't fell like changing out the cluster for an intermittent problem that may not show itself again this season. We can all agree getting the cluster out is a PITA.

Anyone?

FJ newbie here but my RPM needle sometimes bounces a little...had a couple times when it just seemed wrong and my RPM's sounded higher then the gauge was showing me...don't know enough about it to be helpful but I've come to think I should only expect so close of a reading from such an old bike. I also suspect my MPH gauge gets less accurate and shows a higher MPH than I am actually going when I get above 45mph....sometimes it says I'm doing 65 or 75 but based on the surrounding traffic and roads I'm on I don't think that's the case. Anyone have a GPS speedo they use?

Daniel,

It's not a new bike.   :sorry:
Just as a test, I would run a dedicated new ground wire to all of the ground connections on the back of the instrument panel.  It is difficult to find a flakey ground connection by any other means.  HTH

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
