Hi dear FJ owners !! :flag_of_truce:

Abhi here from Japan, now from the town that once produced this piece of engineering. (IWATA)

Got myself this old 3XW a couple years ago and have worked on it slowly and got it going, been riding since.

Been on a few long journeys and many short rides on this and I must say, i LOVE it.

I discovered this forum while trying to figure out what that rattling sound :dash2:  was coming from somewhere on the left, discovered that it was my Starter chain, set my idling to 1300+ etc etc. (and changed my cam chain tensioner and guides)

Thanks to the vast amount of knowledge and experience shared on this forum, I'm really happy and feel great satisfaction, mental safety, in owning this beautiful machine.

I hope I can contribute positively to this forum and be an active and regular member.

Happy riding!!

Hello Abhi, welcome!
Yes, that rattle sound is your starter chain rubbing on the oil jet...this happens as our starter chains stretch which happens normally as our bikes get older..
Yamaha fixed this problem with the XJR bikes by using a different oil jet design....which is compatible with our bikes.
Here is some info: https://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=19016.0

Thanks all for the welcome !

Pat, Thanks for the direction on the nozzle. I wanted to order one right away, but not sure about rpm shipping to Japan, and was hoping for some of the yamaha xjr updated nozzle Stock in Japan..

I checked the part number and all I could find was the 36Y-13454-00 part....(which is the older long nozzle)maybe the recall didn't happen in Japan

Could you please tell me the part number for the updated xjr?

I tried to look it up but couldn't find it ...

Thanks!!

The XJR was never imported to the USA so sorry, I don't have that XJR part #
I only have access to the USA model Yamaha's.
