The name is Kris. I'm 32 and from Rural PA and I've frequented this forum a handful of times. Last year I got my hands on a modified 1984 FJ1100, equipped with Ducatti Hard bags. She ran when I got her but hasn't been running right. Figured I'd join and see about getting help on the journey to get this old lass of a bike running happily.

Welcome, out of the shadows and in to the light (FJ campfire). Easy bikes to work on. What modifications have been done other than the hard bags?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

When I got her she had the hard bags, Fog lights, and a battery level indicator, wired in with a relay and fuse; A proper wiring job.

Not running right sounds like crappy gas and an FJ that sits for more than a week at a time. This ethanol gas is glue for the carbs. But you might be having different issues.

What other bikes do you have or have owned?

My first bike was a 2015 Honda CBR300R, that I rebuilt. I've had that one for about a year. Intentionally started with a smaller bike to learn the ropes, while getting the FJ ready.

As for the FJ. I have reason to believe it's more than just bad gas and sitting. Even after ripping apart the carb's and putting in an ultrasonic, Cylinder #3 is dead till about 15-20% throttle. We think it's a mix of bad shims and a still dirty idle circuit that's keeping it dead at idle.

Welcome, I'm from Central NJ. This group has been a big help to me in getting my FJ that sat for 15 years now running so I'm sure they can help sort through what you got going on. The guys at RPM are also very helpful and the best source for any FJ parts needed https://www.rpmracingca.com/

Once I get some time to collect the data on the remedies my friend and I have tried I'll open up a post on the Running issues section.
