Just a quick one! Has anyone used Plastex to fix broken front fender tabs ?

Plastex is 2 parts, a liquid and a powder, mix together and they harden a stick to stuff.
Just wondering how tuff it is to withstand the crushing force and vibrations.

Thanks  :good:

Or if you know a better way to replace broken off tabs.

Yes I've used it many times. Just cut a groove from the back side with a dremel. Or similar tool. Make sure not to disturb the paint on the front. And fill the back with the plastic powder. And saturate it with the liquid. Will melt right into the original plastic. If you want to make sure it's strong. Get some fine fiberglass cloth from a hobby shop and put powder both under it. And on top of it. Then saturate it with the liquid. Use plenty of powder on top of the fiberglass cloth. Can be sanded after it hardens. If it's missing chunks of the part just get some of the molding bars and get a mold from a good part. And fill it in with enough powder to form the missing piece. I have yet to have one of my patches let go.

Thanks that's great to hear, I have both fenders with tabs broken off totally, but I also have new fenders of different colours to use the molding bar on to get a good mold from. I've used it on cracks on the belly pan with fibreglass before and it's still holding, just was unsure how strong for these tabs. I should be able to fit where the black part and not affect the colour on fender

I've ordered a three pack of those bars.

Don't forget to get some fine fiberglass cloth from the hobby store. For added strength. Both is better than mat. And hobby cloth is alot thinner and more flexible.

I'll look around for some, they give some fibreglass May with the Plastex kit but is quite thickish. By the time it's cut to size it'll fall apart.
But I'll check some hobby stores for finer stuff

Thanks for the tips.
And I'll get up some photos before, during and after when I get around to it.

My headlight adjustment tab came out good that I did with Plastex but I didn't use and fibreglass, at least it doesn't have a lot of stress on it.

Is it better?  That's debatable, but it seems good to me.

That's a lot of holes there, probably is stonger and will last til of end of time.
I could probably give it to a mate and he can take it to work as a foreign order, he works as Sheety on fighter aircraft, he'd do a good job but I'll try the Plastex as it will be easier.  :flag_of_truce:

I've seen utubes where they sprinkled filings from stainless steel into the mix , not with Plastex but something else.
I'll be using fibreglass cloth with the Plastex mix.
See what happens

Ok, few blemishes but congratulations it's a tab, just hope they are actually strong enough where they join.i was only able to use strands of fibreglass, could get a full piece in.
Main things with those tabs are they get squashed, but now I use loctite and just nip them up firm.

Few photos below, making mood from new fender, mold itself, fender with no tabs and now has tabs.
Next will be how long they last.
