I work with powder coaters, nearly all our steel parts (some aluminum as well) are powder coated. Maybe I can help if you have questions.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Billy Bananahead

Mate, i think you should post your questions up over here and then others can chime in with their experiences.
Also ask your powder coater, he'll be able to tell you how to present your frame. I would put nuts and bolts in all the threaded areas and places you don't want coating plus the areas like the headstock bearing seats and engine mounting points.

I was asking about an fj1200 frame not your frame as they are difference

Billy Bananahead

There can't be much difference between a 1988 FJ1200, which mine is, and a 1992 FJ1200 frame.
The process of powder coating will still be the same and the preparation the same.

I used spray on truck bed liner and it worked a treat. So much so, that I ended up spraying any part that was a pain to keep clean. It's mat, textured finish looks great with the smooth gloss of the engine. This is all in my opinion obviously, but its stayed on and minimized cleaning, thereby maximizing riding.

How about some pics of the bed liner.

Here's when it got freshly done. However, this was 55,000 miles ago. It looks pretty much the same today. A bit of paint flaked off the engine, but that truck bed liner sticks like peanut butter on a screen door.

Pat, as if I would spray over that lovely polished swingarm. The only slight disservice it has received is that with the standard exhaust back on (Supertrapp headers broke) you can't see it as well.
Anyway, this Springbreak I plan a freshen up. Next year the Fj turns 40.
Where does the time go?

BTW, If anyone has some Supertrapp headers in the spare parts bin; I'd be interested.
They are becoming so rare though, that hope is fading.
Anyway, I don't mind the quieter standard pipes.
Makes me less nervous round police cars when I know they don't hear my approach.
