Pre Christmas Family Visit

We headed up north yesterday to come and visit my family and drop off their Christmas presents.

Seems like we underestimated the weather  

The bar at the camp site wasn't very busy last night, but the dog is loving it and it's a gorgeous, if chilly, sunny morning today.

Yes, we were the only people there on Thursday night. 3 other couples turned up last night, plus our eldest and his girlfriend, who were staying in one of the on-site "huts" (actually very nice inside and very warm - should be for +$150 per night with no breakfast !!).

Stupid revelations.....I just noticed the motor home door is on the "wrong" side....

Yeah, the dirt is on the "wrong side" for our traffic system, but we wanted the Hymer quality and went for it anyway. The ones made here in the UK (based on RHD chassis) have the door on the right side, and are much cheaper (we could have had a much bigger one for the same money if we hadn't wanted a Hymer family brand), but the quality of everything is well below what we have got - and as this is a long-term vehicle, quality counted more than space/size.

 How well does the motorhome handle snowy roads?

It handles them really well. It's got winter tyres, hill descent control and traction control systems, so it does much better than most family saloon cars/station wagons. I also used it on some muddy/rocky forest tracks to get to a picturesque overnight pitch last year and it climbed slopes that our friends smaller / lighter / more nimble Mercedes Sprinter based camper-van couldn't climb  

I think the 6 speed manual gearbox and diesel engine torque with a bit of human clutch control, also help. First gear is a quite low ratio "crawler" gear that lets me trundle along in low grip situations without getting loads of wheelspin !

It snowed again last night - this is very un-UK.....  4 days without it defrosting and turning to brown slushy mush
