I have a serious problem. I really need an intervention.
Just aquired a bucket list bike. 85 Vmax 4100 miles. 2 small paint chips in the tank cover otherwise don't see  anything. Of course anything that has anything to do with brake fluid is toast. Might keep back brake system. Does anyone know of newer brake systems that they use on old vmax's and newer clutch masters that might work.
Will need new tires. And battery of course. Tank looks like it was drained. Some surface rust inside. But  doesn't look bad. Maybe the carbs were drained too.

ice addition!   :good:

Can't wait to see how this one goes

Pretty sure you need encouragement - not an intervention!

The Vmax upgraded the brakes in 1993. Just like the FJ. A simple fork change will give you the ability to mount Blue Dot calipers. The 1993-2007 forks, wheel, rotors and Blue dots will get your braking system up to par.

For the clutch. Brand new 1989-1993 FJ1200 Clutch Master Cylinder assembly's are available brand new. Check with Randy or your local dealership.

Next you'll be asking about the Vmax chain drive conversions, so you can run a wider back rim and tire....

Thanks Fred. Are the newer wheels still 18" on the front. I  just ordered a new set of tires for it last night.
Can you still get new clutch slaves for the max.
I don't think I'll mod it too much. It's too mint. Low miles.  And a first year. I just want to make it functional. With minimal updates..... he says as he wonders what it would be like with nitrous?!?!

The wheels are the same diameter from 1985-2007.

The clutch master cylinder for the Vmax is the same part number as the FJ1200 clutch master cylinder. Open the following link and scroll down the page. You will see the 1985 Vmax is listed as compatible.

I've never delt with the blue dot calipers. I've got 2008 gsxr1000 front ends on my fjs. Do you have to get them from certain bikes or do they all have the Same mounting tabs.

Yamaha monoblock calipers (axial mount) used on several models... FJR, FZ-1 and YZF series.
Note: on the YZF R-1 use caliper up to 2003. Starting in 2004 the R-1 calipers went to a radial mount.

You can put on a bigger rear wheel if you want .

What was that swapped from?  Any other details?  A VMax has always been on my radar ever since they came out!

It is a 2003 model i spoke withe the owner today because he is selling it and im tempted to buy it .He did not know what bike the wheel is from ,but says that maybe it was a
special delivery from yamaha ? i doubt that but not sure. He wants 11000 usd for it that is maybe to much as i seen them go for 6000-8000 but they are older .It has only
17000km on the meter.
