Screw the DMV. lol

It has been pretty easy so far finding the parts I need to repair and replace for my 86 FJ1200. So I called the DMV to find out what hoops I would have to jump through to get my bike registered again since it will now require a rebuilt title.

I got a used clip on handlebar and rear brake lever on ebay. Now I am told I need to provide a receipt with the seller's name and the vin number from the motorcycles they came off of. LOL Unbelievable. They lady at the DMV said it to discourage the use of stolen parts.

I am actually really pissed off that my bike got totaled to begin with. I have spent less than $300 on all the parts and materials I have used so far.  If the insurance company would let me, I would give them all their money back if they would change their decision about the bike being totaled or even just cancel the claim. This is complete and total f*cking bullshit. 

Soooo.. If I cant get the ebay sellers to provide the info I guess I am screwed, or at least screwed out of the money I already spent on those parts.

So what is to keep me from buying some shitty aftermarket clipons and a break lever and putting them on for the inspection. Then after I get my stuff titled taking it off and returning them and putting the used parts on? Or trying to straighten my handlebar and putting it back on and trying to straighten my brake lever and putting it back on... I wonder if that would pass inspection. lol

In the UK we have a term 'jobsworth' for people like these
...as in 'its more than my job is worth to...' insert sensible request here....

You can do what many others do when their States have laws that are good intentions, but cause grief for many law abiding citizens.

If you are able to use an address in Georgia or Alabama. Title and register the bike in the other state. Than once you get the Alabama or Georgia title. Go back and get it titled in Florida.

I think it is a Frame may be bendt thing.That when a bike is crashed the frame can be out of angle.I once had a bike that was condemned after a crash when a old lady drove on a red light arrow and i hit her head on the car also got condemned

Actually, that's how my RZ500 became "legal".  It was not allowed in the states but those lucky Canadians got all the good stuff.  It got transfer titled in New Hampshire where they didn't care and there was always a lot of back and forth with Canuckistan anyways.  Once it had a NH title it was easy peasy to get a PA title.  Better still, since it was "only" 500 cc's, the insurance knuckleheads only charged me as a small bore bike.

Wow, I haven't heard our northern neighbors referred to by that name in a long time, and not many times either.   

Loukiii, I'm willing to help get your title cleared.  I'm in South Carolina. The title transfer fee is something like $15 + 6-7% sales tax. "Sell" it to me for say $50, it about $3.00-3.50 for the taxes. Then reverse the deal,eh? PM me if I terested.

I dont know if I can. They are already processing the salvage title. I should receive it in a few days. Then before it can be registered I have to get it inspected and apply for a rebuilt title.
Im still trying to figure all this out. I wish I would have just had it towed to my house and not even filed a claim.
I will keep that in mind though if I get stuck. Appreciate the offer.

No problem. I've had title problems before. For one I just bought a frame with a clean title and built the basket case with it, after repairing it.
