As of right now my intention is to claim the bike and take the money and fix it.
So get ready for a storm of questions...

Also there is a website IAA.com. It is the salvage yard/auction house website where they are holding my bike. There is an 85 FJ1100 too. They have not decided what the disposition is, ie. auction or direct sale... but figured someone might be interested for a project or parts bike. The pictures look decent enough.

I could get a brand new bike if I really wanted one but none of the new ones really get my attention like an old FJ. Not even a new FJ although I would probably like all the modern amenities and gadgets on one like traction control and abs and ride modes etc.

Thanks for all the good words of encouragement. I will start a new thread for the repair project.

Loukiii,

You prolly know, the Yamaha successor to the FJ1200 is the FJR1300.  The later models have ABS, traction control, cruise control, on-board diagnostics, linked brakes, fuel injection, electronic suspension settings, and riding modes (sport, touring, et c.).  Maybe more bells and whistles too; just pick the year of FJR you want to get the OEM features that you like.
Not so lean in mass as the FJ1200, but that new gal can dance.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

One more idea why it is not turning over: it was laying on the side for some time probably and maybe filled one or more cylinders with fuel, hydrolocking it. It is a long-shot, but remove the plugs before cranking it to prevent bent rods. Just in case.

I picked it up as soon as I stopped sliding and moved it off to the side of the road. When I turn the key on the lights come on etc. But when I press the starter nothing happens. Hopefully a loose wire or something along that line. I still dont have it back yet. I will probably get it tomorrow or wednesday most likely then I can give it a good looking over and start ordering parts.

Loukiii,

Check the kill switch, clutch switch, and sidestand switch.  HTH.

Brought the bike home yesterday. Will be giving it a good going over this weekend.
One thing I noticed right away... either the tow truck operator or someone in the salvage yard dropped my bike. When I went down, I went down on the right side and all the wreck damage is by the rear brake lever etc. Well my clutch lever is curled up and there are scratches on the end of it and also the knob on the end of the left handlebar is scratched up.
What really ticks me off about it is I really have no recourse because they totaled the bike anyway so they probably figured it was going to the dump anyway. Not a major deal but it still makes me really angry. lol
I am going to file a complaint with the insurance company anyway just so they know how my bike was treated. Not that they will give a rats ass about it I'm sure.
