Good morning. I'll be ordering dual pod filters and crank case filter tonight. Removing air box. Currently have factory jets and settings. In theory, I shouldn't have to change carb jetting or settings because I'm not altering exhaust. I'm assuming In 1986 the fj1200 was a bit lean from the factory. I'm happy enough with the performance but one could always use more. Am I right? Does anyone have any recommendations? Pods with factory exhaust. Jetting, needle height and fuel air screw recommendations? Thanks.

Thanks Robert. Can I expect noticable drivability changes, either good or bad?

The pilots will help cold start as they were lean for emissions from Yamaha.
The main jet will help a bit on top end but is not absolutely necessary.
The needle shims, most people report a bit of a stumble while rolling into the throttle, when adding the pods without shimming the needle up.
No real drivability changes with the changes above. Some people have reported a bit of a stumble/hesitation by not doing them.

So I have this so far. A reputable powered sports outlet is close to home so I went with these pods. I like the look and have used them before with success. I haven't touched jetting but did shim the needle. Starts beautiful, idles like butter. Anything under load and past quarter throttle is utter shit. I expected that though, I just wanted to sort out fitment. I'll be ordering jets today from RPM. Have been considering fabbing some sort of stacks. Anyone done this? I did no damage removing the air box and hardware so easy enough to return to factory if needed. I do want to make this work because I'm stubborn.

Hi The filters look great I used those before on an xj600 and struggled to get them Run properly because of the step inside them which blocks The air flow which enters the small holes in the mouth of each carb intake Velocity stacks definitely help What are the three hoses Which connect over the top of the carbs ?

Those are the dual feed 10mm fuel lines off a gravity flow 1984 to ‘87 FJ which uses a vacuum on/off petcock. https://fjowners.com/index.php?topic=18286.0The 1988-‘95 FJ’s use a fuel pump, so they can get away with smaller 6-8mm fuel lines along with single feed.

Oh rite I thought they looked like fuel lines but couldn’t understand why there were 2 linked Back to the carbs… I took the velocity stacks out of the original air box and slipped ram air foam filter socks over them And it runs perfect pulls strong through every gear I also lowered the main needle one notch at the same time

Rikki I actually took them off already and put them on my 1984 FJ600. I have no doubt I would have been able to get them to work properly but my 1200 is 100% stock and the more I got looking at it, I think I just want to keep it stock. The 600 is a rolling project. Haven’t put them to the test yet as we have feet of snow right now. I did a stage 2 jet kit on it and will do full exhaust this spring. Keeping Maggie “1200” as the way the engineers meant it to be. Those pods do look good though.
