Rear upper engine mount, what am I missing?

I'm confused too - because the different pictures clearly show bushing that have different shoulder widths.  Like I said earlier, I can easily see how I got the wrong bushings - but not for your project!  

If it was riding weather still I'd of already turned up a new set of bushings or spacers for those bushings and not spend the time to ponder it!  

I think maybe you're getting a bit of a perspective error from the pics. I just checked partsfish and the bushings are the same part number (collar: 90387-101V2-00) from 84 to 90.

91+ does away with them altogether for a bracket that yamaha terms "engine stay".

Well, I came to a point where I just said "screw it" and just accepted that there's going to be a gap at the bushings/collars and carried on with reassembly:



It is what it is....
