Which Model Do I Have?

Just picked up my 1992 FJ1200 a few days ago, and I've read some people refer to 3CV, 3XW, etc...  Also, Browsing Partzilla for gaskets and whatnot, for '92 it shows models 1200AD, ADC, D, & DC.  Parts seem mostly interchangeable, but what's the proper model?

The VIN is:  JYA4AHE0XNA005323

VIN decoders weren't much help.  Cyclepedia.com actually kicked it back as an FJ1200B.

The Partszilla lists only the USA models of the '92 FJ's. There are several other models of FJ's that are specific to a region. For example, the French and Swiss versions were different than the other EU countries.

That said, the 1992 FJ1200 came in 4 flavors in the US market.
ABS was optional in '92 and the California version was also optional.
So you could have:
1) Non ABS 49 state version (no vapor emissions system) this would be the D model
2) Non ABS California version, this would be the DC model.
3) ABS 49 state version, this would be the AD model
4) ABS California version, this would be the ADC model

The A in the model letters indicates ABS version....the C in the model letters indicates California version.

Other than that.....I also get cornfused with the various FJ model letters 3CV 3WX 36Y etc, etc...
Folks overseas use these FJ model identification codes all the time. I suppose it's more accurate.

From a general perspective - What you have is a 3XW model of FJ.

As Pat noted, there are regional variations, but those (apart from the A for ABS) generally relate to specific restrictions or emissions differences in the carbs or the CDI unit. Pretty much everything else is common across all 3XW's from 91 through to 95.

According to the VIN database Pat linked, which looks comprehensive to me, yours is a 4AH4, 1992 FJ1200D, with the serial number between 0005101 and 0008000. So like Pat and Dean said, it's basically a 3XW, 1991-1995 FJ1200, non-ABS, non-California USA model.

4th generation. The biggest differences in those years are bodywork colors, non-ABS/ABS and then the country specific variations, which tend to be minor.

Now, if you are feeling uneasy or put off by FJ ownership , or are afraid of joining 'Modifiers Anonymous'  , I'm sure you could find a member here to take the FJ off your hands and give it a nice home.  But, we would like you to stick around and join in our little internet campfire here for reverie, BS'ing, ride regaling, and any other things you may want to discuss. ;^)

I will add my 2 cents worth for model designations.

1984 FJ1100L
1985 FJ1100N
The FJ1100LC and FJ1100NC are California specific.
Both years are 99% the same. The only difference was the paint scheme.

For ALL of the 1200 models, the same 'C' is added at the end of the model code to designate the California model.

1986 FJ1200S
1987 FJ1200T
Both have the 1TX model code. The only difference between the years is the paint scheme. Both of these are about 90% compatible with the 1100.

1988 FJ1200 NOT SOLD IN THE USA
1989 FJ1200W
1990 FJ1200A
All 3 have the 3CV model code. As mentioned some European countries will have the 3CW model code. For the most part, the only differences are the the 4 different paint schemes.

1991 FJ1200B
1992 FJ1200D or FJ1200AD (ABS)
1993 FJ1200AE (ABS)
1994 FJ1200? Not Sold in the US
1995 FJ1200? Not Sold in the US
1996 FJ1200? Not Sold in the US
All of these have the 3XW model code. There are a few 1991 models that carry the 3YA model code. The 1991 was Non-ABS in the US, with ABS being an option in Europe and elsewhere. The 1992 had ABS as an option in the US and 1993 the ABS was standard equipment in the US. I believe that ABS was an option throughout the 4th gen run in Europe and elsewhere.
