Ian and I had planned to ride up north for a couple days around Bucks lake but the new chain master link I ordered for my FJ didn't show up. We changed our room reservations to June 24th and 25th . We decided instead to take a day ride south and east of lake Tahoe to check out some area's where last summers fires burned . We rode up mount rose hwy to lake Tahoe then around the east shore to south lake.  The first burn areas we encountered we're about ten miles south of the lake. The fire damage was spotty  with many surviving trees.

Riding down hwy 89 to the junction of hwy 88 there was very little fire damage.

Driving down the canyon where the Carson river runs there were burned trees on the very tops of the mountain peaks but it was mostly in great shape.

When we got closer to Markleville the fire damage  was more extensive there were some areas where hundreds maybe thousands of acres we're almost completely burned but even there some patches of trees survived. They saved the town of Markleeville but all the surrounding mountain tops burned. We talked with a friend who lived there who told us during the fire burning embers were dropping everywhere. They had one fire truck and crew parked at every house ( it's a small town ) . As devastating as the fires were it's still a beautiful area and I know it will recover well in time.
