Locksets on FJ1100/1200

On my 86 FJ1200 1TX, all three locks (ignition, fuel cap and seat latch) are keyed differently. A bit annoying, so thought to play around/mod the tumblers in the lock cylinders and see if I can get a single key to fit. Then I notice that all three locks have different keyways, so I presume this makes that job much more difficult or not doable at all.

Also the right hand side seat latch has lost it's lever handle ... looks like it has broken off at the double bend in the shaft, and appears to be a common problem judging by the number of used ones with the same issue.

So I guess I am in the market for a new lockset, but I am not clear if any of the ignition/fuel cap/seat lock parts changed over the years with different models. Are they all interchangeable or are there specific parts from other years that will not fit my bike? Regarding the three locks themselves, are the lock cylinders all identical? Anyone got anything that would help me fix this please? Thanks, John

I would remove the gas cap and seat lock, and give a decent (experienced) locksmith a chance to re-key them, to match your ignition key.  Such good work would probably cost much less than OEM parts.  Failing that, do you need the lock functions on the gas cap and seat latch?  If not, you could add a decorative plastic knob (or block) to the key head, and leave the key inserted at all times.  Use some sort of retainer to prevent the key from ever falling out of the lock.  The key head should not look like a key is in the lock, of course.

For the busted lever release, in the past (for other bikes) I have drilled a small hole in the end of the stub lever, and used an old brake cable (throttle cable) with the ball end attached.  Run the cable through the hole, and attach the free end of the cable straight to somewhere solid, maybe using an eye-terminal soldered or crimped to the end of the cable, with a screw into some solid anchor point.  Pressing or pulling on the middle of the cable then will easily pull the stub of the lever, and release the latch.  If you use a crimped eye-terminal, run the cable into (through) the terminal end, through the eyelet, and back through the terminal end, then make the crimp.  Use a washer under the screw head, and you are golden there.

Yes I would like the fuel cap and seat locks to be functional. Lots of asshole kids around... stole a fire extinguisher from the neighbour's minivan recently. I don't think a locksmith is going to have much luck re-keying the locks as the keyways are all different unfortunately (i.e. they are all different style keys) . But perhaps they can be changed but not sure if parts still available. I am wondering if Ilco or similar make these lock cylinders (they make key blanks that fit) - so replacement cylinders might be something a locksmith might help me source,

Neat idea. However I made a new lever this morning to mimic the missing piece and hope to get that welded or brazed onto the broken stub tomorrow. If this fix breaks I'll bear your idea in mind, Thanks.
