Well my 1984 ZX900 with around 32000km that sits and does not get used has suffered a bad case of stuck clutch plates. I did have to bleed the slave cyl last season and the clutch lever feels normal when squeezed. The only other issue is I lost the rear brake master, no leaks just no buildup of pressure. So it fires right up and when I stick it in gear it grabs and stalls out. So I did what any good lad would do and pushed it in motion then put it in gear. Just went around the house with it with the clutch pulled in the whole time and still could not get it un stuck so rush for the key to shut it off before I hit something. I guess I need to take it down the road and see if it will free up. I thought about pushing it off the center stand with a bit of revs but not sure what I should do. Any ideas. Another thing I could try is launch the thing out of first while pulling the clutch in. I dont feel good about thrashing the gear box.

Gumby,

First, the rear hydraulics will require bleeding, using all fresh fluid, and maybe a vacuum machine on the caliper bleeder fitting.  When finished, you should have good rear braking again.

Then pick a road (or route) which requires no stops, and where you will not be dogged by faster traffic from behind.  Borrow a trailer, if necessary, to get the bike to the right roadway.   I would find a down-sloping section of road to get the bike rolling, start the engine, and put it in gear at a forward speed matching the gear used.  Roll on the throttle normally, but do NOT shift.  Let the engine throttle back down to idle, rinse and repeat.  When the bike is warm enough, the clutch will release, and then it will instantly be a completely normal clutch again.  This is a common issue with any long-parked bike with a wet clutch, and nothing to worry about - just take the right (safe) approaches to the problem.  Short-cuts can be hazardous to your health.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Thanks Red, Next chance I get I will see what happens.

Is pulling the clutch cover and removing the clutch not possible?  Seems like pull the clutch - soak it all in an oil bath and separate the plates?  Then oil them well and reinstall...

GhostMerc

Our trick for unsticking the clutch is to roll the bike backwards in gear with the clutch pulled in.  Had to do it quite a bit for an old ATV that only got used a handful of times throughout the year.

Well yes that would be the last resort, this bike is 100 percent low km"s collector and do not want to have to go in and open him up! For the record the 86 ITX and the 84 ZX900A1(in red) were the best looking fastest Street bikes when I was a teen that when I seen one I would get that rush feeling and wished everytime they would crack it wide open and split the scene vrooooooooom. Mad max circle burnouts were the rage!!

The FJ1100 came out while I was in high school - and my XJ650 Seca was all I could handle!  Traded my first car for that bike - best young life decision I had made!

Always liked the GPz's too - especially the "Top Gun" GPz900

Haha  Now i got that mad max feeling again.i remember the gpz900 i love it expecally the black and charcoal version i never got the chance to ride one ,but the gpz 1000rx i
have ridden alot what a bike ! but it is not for the newbie! it is my favorite old kwaka oh-boy what a bike on the straights! i remember she feels like a angry
locomotive on steroids, but when there was a corner in sight she just didn't  want to turn so easy  =). I almost bought one a couple years ago and tok it for a test ride .it
was the same feeling but she almost made me go down in a slow turn almost crashed into a field  because of a sudden very hard hanging front brake caliper had to give full
throttle and a little uncontrolled  burnout drift to avoid going down .if i did i would have had to buy it as the seller told me before the testride : "if you go down you must buy it "
=).Decided not to buy it because there was allot of bad noises from transmission and did not want another rebuild project when i was doing the fj
