The Ben Stiller/Adam Sandler type of comedy really misses the mark with me. I suppose I have a typically dark sarcastic British sense of humour, but I also enjoy "clever" comedy - Bill Bailey's stand up routines are awesome...no shouting, no swearing, just clever inciteful and imaginative commentary and stories - can you do that as well ? .

Haha, misunderstood humour has bitten me on the arse here once already this week, I think I'll stay out of naming names.

When a movie is made for foreign release, it is scripted and filmed accordingly and then as a final check, is screened for test audiences to see what they forgot. After all, a comedy without laughs won't do very well at the box office.

Australia doesn't make a lot of movies for world release but if they can crack it in the US, it will make many times more profit than it could possibly achieve here with a population of only 25 mill. To this end, I remember "Crocodile Dundee" being played to an American test audience and having what was considered some of the funniest parts of the movie pass in complete silence.

The then edited US release version was played back to Aussie audiences with a far more subdued reaction than the original. I guess the difference in humour between countries is hardly news.

For me, the most laughs still come from my favourite cartoonist, Gary Larson, he still makes me laugh even on the umteenth reading of his books over many decades. My brother had a pile of books in his toilet that made up Larson's complete works. Audible laughter from his toilet and visits of such duration that enquiries about the health of the occupant were common.

The title Asleep at the wheel was used figuratively, not literally, the post was removed over a presumed difference of opinion on what constitutes inappropriate content. To explain the context would no doubt see that post removed as well and be seen as inflammatory behaviour and intentionally flouting forum rules, and we don't want that.

So, to answer your question and satisfy your curiosity, there was no ripping yarn about anyone actually falling asleep at the wheel.

I may have already said too much........................aaaaarrrrgggghhh
