Oil pump gear assembly sequence

I know I'm the one who has stuffed this up, but, in reassembling my oil pump and refitting, I've found a weird difference between YGSM and how it was when I pulled it apart.

The oil pump and drive gear are in great shape. The wear tolerances are 'as new'

My question is simple. In the YGSM and Haynes, there is a washer/shim between the drive gear and the oil pump body, then a circlip to hold the gear on the spline.

During disassembly the washer/shim was between the circlip and the gear. I've noted some other small errors in the manuals. Is this another?

Do I reassemble as assembled, or do I correct to Yamaha YGSM?

As the oil pump is pretty important I don't want to screw this up.

The washer goes behind the oil pump gear.

Washer, gear and then cir-clip.

Thanks Randy  :good2:.

That is the YGSM and Haynes method. I just wonder how it came to be assembled the other way around.

The clutch looked like it had never been touched, even had the wire retainer and slim plate OEM set-up.
Unless it had 2nd gear done many moons ago and the oil pump was removed then reassembled incorrectly it will remain a mystery.

Anyhoo, I now know the oil pump will function if the sequence is wrong, but will stick with how the manual suggests.
