RPM Shift Detent Upgrade Woes

I'm late to the party but since I started this thread figured I'd let you know, basket must come out. I've never had to mess with a clutch before but the manual is always handy and gets me out of trouble most of the time. It comes out easy if you have the right tools. First off, no matter what you do, have a magnet handy to fish out the spring when it falls in to the oil pan when you miss...this may happen eleventeen times before it's all over. First, don't try to thread the new detent on fully, just enough to get the threads to bite. Then I had my wife use a wide blade scewdriver to pivot the shift shaft arm down towards the ground, which raises it a bit and then I could tilt the detent enough to get under the (star gear) and in place. Make sure the bolt flange is flush against the detent arm and torque carefully. It will make sense as you attempt to install. I also checked all the clutch plates and put the friction rings in a ziploc with some fresh oil because I have some additional parts coming from RPM to be certain all goes well when attempting assembly. If the friction plates get put in dry, your clutch may lockup after assembly. Cheap insurance so don't have to do it twice. Good luck.

FYI

A rattle gun will get the retainer nut off from the clutch basket without needing to secure the backet.

For correct tension when tightening the nut, I can't remember it it was 3 ugger duggers or 4.

It's 3, any more and you risk cracking the basket.
