Good news is, you can use those forks as boomerangs. Bring them to the rally and i'll see if I can chuck one and whack you in the noggin.

:wacko1:

Always a wise guy in the group!

At least you didn't ask how antelope tastes...

Oh wait, that was the other wise guy...

All in good fun gentlemen!

Last time you were here, I thought you told me you cut a nice steak off and cooked it on the header before it cooled down?

Mike, it's never good to hear about one of our own having an accident, but given the circumstances and the outcome, lady luck was definitely riding pillion on this occasion.

Hitting an animal at speed was unfortunate, but it was a great stroke of luck that saw you stay upright, and in doing so, avoid what certainly would have been serious injury.

Glad to see the team has rallied around to help get the bike sorted, good people.

If you need any advice, I'm here.

Hello again,

To revisit this once more - Noel a correct summation on all points: ESPECIALLY your comment on the "good people" as they truly are part of the FJ community.

It's a privilege to know so many great people.

......My speed was about 115 mph at impact ....

Holy Antelope Shit... :shok:
That speed sounds terrible, but it sounds like at that speed your FJ cut through that carcass like a knife.

Perhaps at a lower velocity the carcass would have not been cut in half, and the whole body would have come over the top of your windscreen and swept you off your bike.

It is a testament to your skill as a motorcyclist on how you kept things under control. Major Kudos Mike.
Kudos also to your guardian angel...yes, they do exist. Seconds and Inches....

Yah Mike you are a tough man. It's amazing how detailed and  seemingly slow motion the  steps through the impact can be during that split second. It's  good to stay up. You have had my respect since the day I met you.

On a side note I still find  deer excrement in the  crevices on the  1350.

I can see it now... Mike is pulled over taking a prudent break to avoid fatigue. All of the sudden an antelope cooking along at 115mph spots Mike and his bike sitting like a newly sprouted telephone pole. Attempting to turn and evade, but no traction on them little feet, spins and hits the bike broadside. Cutting its self in half and explosively ending a really good speed run short. Good thing it was not the time slot for the larger animals.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Glad you are on the mend Mike....Like was said... this is one instance where i believe your cruising speed actually helped you out..... i imagine taking the asphalt tumble/slide at 115 could have been significantly worse in the pain dept.
I also believe in Guardian Angels... I have two that i got to meet in person on a deserted road somewhere in Oklahoma
But that's a story for another day....
Wish i could help you out on some parts but alas all i have are extra FZ1 wheel sets.

Good luck and stay safe my Brother!

I'd think the cylinder fins would make much nicer grill marks!

Mike,

I have a '90 frame with title if you have troubles finding a 91 or later rolling chassis or frame.   I may have a set of earlier fork tubes (Which I'm pretty sure will work with your lowers — IF they aren't damaged).

Good luck and heal well!

Dudes, ..... and he remained upright. Just look at those forks.....
Physics is a complicated and often mysterious science. I vote Monkey Mark for official accident scene investigator. He's analysis and reasoned rationale carefully documents the facts and exposes those careless four legged road users.
Mike, if you haven't got a tattoo, now is the time.
Goes without saying that like the rest of the forum, I send healing vibes across the airways.
Turning to the positive. What a golden opportunity to forget about those new fangled 90s bikes and search yourself a lovely 86 model.
Finally, for your entertainment:
I leave you with Eddie 'tentpole' Tudor and the great rock and roll swindle:

WOW Mike!
I am glad you are mostly OK.
Sorry to hear about this, and sorry about your FJ. I know you have put a lot of time, love, and work into that Bike!
The fact that you are able to tell the tale to all of us is the best thing that could have come out of that encounter.........
I hope sometime in the not too distant future, you'll be able to tell me the Tale in person over a glass of whiskey.  :drinks:
