When pressing out the FJ stem from the lower yoke, do you press down from the top??

No, I pressed the stem out from the bottom, that way I did not risk damaging the top of the stem.

I was not worried about the FJ yoke, I threw that away.
The FJ stem I had to hard weld then turn down the stem base to increase the diameter so as to press fit the FJ stem into the YZF750 yoke. (I have YZF750 USD forks)

I thought about...What if the stem is tapered? Pressing it out from the bottom may screw things up.
However, the FJ yoke is trashed and the FJ stem needs machine work anyway...so no worries.

There is a snap ring on the bottom of the FJ stem if I remember correctly. So it has to be pressed from top to bottom. You could force it the other way like Pat but it comes out easier from the top.

Cheers guys, after buggering one for practice, you press down from the top.  If you go the other way you'll destroy both stem and yoke. :sarcastic:

Sorry - a bit late checking on today - I could have saved you some grief    :unknown:

Some press out easier than others - and some make a much louder "bang" when they let go than others too!
