If anyone has a new spare that they would part with, let me know. Sold out at RPM with no restock anytime soon.
Thanks in advance,
Ted

Ted,
Any auto parts store has gasket material, in sheets.  You can make your own, fer cheap!
Use the old one for a pattern.
.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Not sure how well this would work. The OEM gasket is rubber and I personally would want to use the OEM part with this being a FUEL sealing item.... We all know of a couple of owners who have had FJ fires.

Thanks for the info. Pat pointed me in the direction of partszilla, and I ordered one today. I've cut a gasket or three in my day, and the fuel sender gasket is about 3/16ths thick, is indeed soft rubber, and had molded ridges to seal around the bolts and the hole in the tank.

If is definitely more involved than flat gasket material. And, hey, it seals the fuel tank, what could possibly go wrong using a homemade gasket?

I believe I got all the parts and tools rented from RPM to make the bike roadworthy for this season.

Many thanks for all the suggestions, hints, and tips.

Best,
Ted

By the way, knowledgeable folk, what is the deal with the chubby dragon decals on FJs? The burnt bike, above, has one, my bike has one, and I've seen at least a few others on FJs.

Let me in on the secret.

The Dragon stickers indicate someone who has been to Deals Gap, North Carolina and ridden The Tail of the Dragon US129. You can only get the stickers by physically visiting the store. https://www.homeofthedragon.com/products/dragon-stickers?_pos=1&_sid=65f3a8a6b&_ss=r

The burnt bike pictured is mine and has been repaired. This photo was taken earlier this week.

I'm curious Fred about the LED light on your crash bar in that photo - what is it for, guiding WW2 anti aircraft fire......or is your FJ now (with its new head/valves) so fast that it can take off

Maybe that's the real reason why you"re called Aviationfred  :good2:

Maybe. Guess I was doing other things instead of riding there.  But, if you don't ask questions, you won't know. I'm glad I found a group that will tolerate questions that seem entry level.

Mostly, anyway.

Was the cause of the fire ever sorted out on the burnt bike? Nice work getting it back on the street.

Best regards,
Ted

The #1 carb float stuck and fuel flowed out of the throat and the alternator created the spark.... and bad things happened. Luckily I found a fire extinguisher nearby.
