I think I first heard him in the late 70s from one of my older brothers. Of course not playing an electric guitar didn't catch my fancy at the time.  Over the years it has grown on me.  I should know better as my sister has been a folk musician for 40yrs now.  I even used a couple of his songs in my most recent travel videos.  The music might fade but the songs will endure.

Dec 2108, John Prine was in Toronto doing a very small intimate venue for a TV show "Strombo." It's not a studio/sound stage performance, it's the host's living room.
Notice at 24:30, John mentions someone who's been sitting in the crowd quietly the whole time like the rest of the people; no fanfare - Gordon Lightfoot. You can see the way Lightfoot is moved pretty much to tears when Prine says it's an honour to be playing in his presence.
