For racing application.
I do know that Suzuki Hayabusa buckets fit the stock valve springs and the Suzuki retainer will also fit with a little machining.
Has anyone got more info?

I don't have an answer, but found a similar set up in my motor -

I've heard of using the Busa buckets - but not the retainers - cool.

I'd like to know the details of the required machining to get the Hayabusa retainers to for the FJ.  Opening them up from 5 mm to 5.5 mm for the larger FJ valve stems - but is there an angle required to match with the keepers?  Or is it a square cut?  Any machining required to mate with the ID of the FJ valve springs?  Is the OD sufficient for the FJ springs?

Are the Busa retainers known for ovaling like the aftermarket retainers?

That's a very nice looking set up.
Trick looking retainers.
I would love a set up like this.

Are those shim under buckets designed to rotate so the surface wear from the cam lobes are evenly distributed?

Chris, have you ever had a problem with spitting out shims with your race bike?

Pat, never had an issue with spring a shim.

The land speed engines have both run stock buckets and shims with no issues.

The drag bike engine was shim under - did have several of the titanium retainers oval out.  Seems to be a fairly common issue on the shim under conversions.  I have been told having the retainers DLC coated helps with the issue.

The Busa retainers are steel - so I imagine no ovaling issues.  BUT, I imagine they are heat treated.  I wonder what type of issues machining them may cause?  By the time you machined them and got them re-heat treated, may be better off with titanium retainers and getting them DLC coated.

Is there a vendor for the Ti retainers?

No....they don't oval. They are hard anodized aluminum as opposed to raw titanium (which eggs out). Ti works if they are DLC or Ti nitrided. Latest Ti retainers take a 9.5mm shim as opposed to the 13mm shim.

It seems that the Busa retainers won't work.
I got bad info. The collet groove to valve tip is too long on the Yamaha valve. The shim doesn't sit into the recess in the Busa retainer.
It looks like the Busa buckets would work with the kibblewhite retainers though, with the 9.5mm shim.

That's good considering the price of Kibblewhite buckets. There are probably 1 million used busa buckets out there. :good2:

This looks like another possible option — I have not tried it — so there could be some snag I'm not aware of.  It looks to me like you could use it with stock style retainers and not have to worry about the titanium retainers ovalling out.
