What carbs are these?

Hello Bro's,
These were in the box of parts I got along with the '85 I just purchased. Can anyone tell me how to identify what they may have been from? Were either of them used on the FJ100? Do i measure the side with the butterfly to determine the size? Both sets have black plastic slide that are flat on one side with a half round in the middle of the other. Clearly one set is Mikuni and the other Kehin, but there are no other numbers that I can see. Once I know what they are I will put them up in the parts available section. Thanks,

The Mikuni's look like a set of GSXR slingshot carbs.  The keihin's look like they are set up for a down draft application - but I could be mistaken.

Yes, measure the ID of the butterfly side to determine the carb size.

If the Mikuni's are larger than the FJ carbs they could be an interesting science experiment later this summer...

Hi Chris,
Could you explain the "down draft app"? I'll get them both measured up tomorrow.

James,

a lot of the newer sport bikes are set up so the carbs (well, throttle bodies these days for fuel injection!) mount nearly vertical vice horizontal like on our FJ's.

I say the keihins look like downdraft carbs because the angle of the float bowls - downdraft carbs have the floatbowls mounted on an angle to make up for mounting the carbs at an angle.  If you turn a set of FJ carbs sideways, the floatbowls dump fuel everywhere because you are pouring it out!  With the floatbowls mounted at an angle, you can tip the carbs to that angle without spilling any.

As far as Frank has the rear of his bike raised he could probably use downdraft carbs!!!

The Keihins look like the typical Kwacka ZZR variety - I had a ZZR1100 before I got the FJ. The are more angled downwards than the FJ Mikunis so can't be used on it unless you fabricate some wierd intake tubes that point upwards.

The first set are off of a 1997-2007 YZF600. I have an identical set out on the bench. No idea why you would have them as the YZF carb is a downdraft design. I will give you $50 for them as a set of spares for my bike.

Was the FZ750 before the Fazer?  I believe the Fazer was the first of the "leaned forward" cylinder engines that requiired downdraft carbs.

I'll forever remember a billboard ad for the Fazer.  It was banked over in a curve at speed.  The bike was blurry, but the road and background were in focus.  You could clearly see the stripes in the road.  The sign read: "Tear along the dotted line."

Used to see it driving to school every day.

both had downdraft carbs and "genisis" motors (5 valve, radical -at the time- forward canted cylinders. but the FZ hit the streets a year earlier than the FZX fazer. I had an 86 FZ750 purchased new when I was 17...

Great bike for the times. Light, fast, and agile. I rode one last summer and it seemed like a tank. I guess some bike age better than others.
