Hi, I have a friend who had 2 old FJ1100. He doesn't wanted to put money on those old motorcycles and he don't like to work on bikes. He know that I love to restore motorcycles, so he gave them to me. In 1992 I had a FJ1200 that was stolen. So I tough that it can be fun to use those 2 motorcycle to make a good one!

Right now my main motorcycle is a 2016 Honda CRF1000l and a 1977 CB750.

Yes there's a lot of good info on the forum. But I must admit I have hard time to find FJ1100 wiring diagram!

A few people have them around. You can find a full color diagram in the Haynes Manual, or if you would like, I can snap a few photos out of my manual, and send them! Just shoot me a PM with a good email address if you want those!

It's in black and white but it look ok.

I just checked cylinders compression... not very good. I don't know if it's the real km on it but it indicated on 49,900km. Since the engine didn't run in the last 2 years, I put some oil in the cylinders and checked the compression on the cold engine.

2-35
3-50
4-95

Since I don't want to put lot of money on that bike, if it really need new oversize piston, I will not rebuild it. I just completed my '77 CB750 with a big bore 836 kit, USD fork and a bunch of new parts. It cost me $6500 and I did every thing myself execpt the cylinder boring and valves guides replacing.


So I don't want to put lot of money in the FJ.

Yamaha makes an additive called Ring-Free, which may or may not help with compression, there.  It takes a few days to work its' magic.  By mileage, the FJ engine should still be good.

Were you holding the throttle wide open when checking compression?

I'll see later when I'll open the engine. Maybe it's only the rings or the valves seals.

FJ_Hooligna, when I took the compression, the carbs where removed, so no need to open the throttle ;-)

The first bike is now completely all apart. I had a real hard time to separate the exhausts and to remove the top engine mount bolt, the one with a 8mm and 10mm allen bolt. After the vacations, I'll do the other bike. Thats a project for next winter!

As for the low compression. If it ends up being bad rings, there are options that don't break the bank.

An example is this drop in 1250cc kit. All of the machining has been done. This is a true plug and play drop in kit that will fit your 1100.
