Sorry I Offended You

So, we have usually had a vote during the rally to decide where next year's rally should be, but we overlooked that in Hayfork, probably because the sky opened up on everybody Saturday night just after the thermite exploded. So, I suppose I'll start with a couple suggestions, and we can take our time looking at options. Frank is looking into more venues like Hayfork, which I think everyone agreed was a great setting. I don't know if we'd get that lucky with the weather again, however.

My contributions to start the ball rolling are below. Let's just fill this thread with suggestions, and maybe pare it down to a list we can poll as we get closer.

1. Coloma  - A favorite of most who attended last time. Great roads nearby, and great facilities.

2. Angel's Camp RV Resort - A venue I found using Google Maps, that seems to have similar facilities to Coloma. Right on Hiway 49, with great roads in abundance.

Both of those look great to me.  Scenic part of Ca and easy access.

Rick, you might have nailed it with your first thought.
The state of Skaggs springs throws shade over Willits.
Manchester beach was always too cold in the evenings.
Hayfork is really touch and go weather wise, but the roads are magnificent
Petaluma, same issue with Skaggs, and the wine valleys are getting really trafficked of late
Porterville down south didn’t have the roads, but it had a nice poolside.
I’m constantly confused between the Coalville and Coloma rallies. Isn’t someone keeping records?
Err... I’ll pick Hayfork again. Oh wait just done that. It was awesome. Can we do it again? No? Ok then Coalville or Coloma.
I think Coloma was one I missed.......
Coloma then for me.

It's "Coleville", which wasn't that popular, as I recall, in terms of accommodations and location. The same roads we ran for that one are close to Coloma as well. I'm really searching hard for a coastal venue, but the pickins are slim, and there aren't many good riding roads that run up into the hills from the beach until you get pretty far down south.

I'll throw out a ringer.  Lake Co.  Campgrounds at the State Park.  Accomodations in either Lakeport or Clearlake or another ringer, the Konocti Vista Casino.  The tribe built a motel/hotel on site with a marina as well.  Yes, it's on the lake.  There are also good roads to ride in Lake Co. Ask Andy as his Renegade Rally goes thru Lake Co each time.  Something to think about.  Just another idea.

Joe, some good ideas for the mix. I’d go for the WCR here at my house. It would be cheap, if a little crowded.
We have some good roads here, but the 36 set new standards and the ones out of Coloma are pretty ace, like salmon falls road and wentworth springs.
Can Frank pull some splendid Oregon location?
If Garth has finally fixed his 87, maybe he can show us the way.
A wealth of possibilities

Hey Frank, check this out

I'm searching...  I had found another resort in Trinity Alps region along Gold Lakes Rd (?), but the problem turned out to be no alcohol allowed.  That turns out to be a theme among the places that are mostly for kids or Christians.  Now iff we could find a Catholic retreat...

Oregon could be a good spot, but I'm not sure who'd really show up to a spot ~7 hours north of Hayfork.  We could have a Rally at Cove Palisades State park...  lots of camping, rental cabins, heck...  we could even rent a party barge for some quality time on the lake.  As reported, there are some pretty awesome roads and attractions, but this wouldn't be a coastal rally at all.

I'll put up some suggestions in the next few weeks...

As the country isn't specified, how about holding it on the West Coast of England - Stay in Blackpool, ride out to the Lake District and up into the Pennines.....quality accommodation ( sarcastic), guaranteed weather (rain can be just about guaranteed any day during summer), not too far from Liverpool where your bikes could be shipped into (just like trailering them to the rally, but on a ship), but actually, really great roads.....when it's dry.

I'm sure Andyoutandabout can vouch for the area as a fantastic location for the 2020 WCR   sarcastic sarcastic

Maybe I'll see you all there  good2       (Otherwise I'll just have to find a way to get over there next year !)

I'm actually doing a family party boat thing on Lake Comanche just East of Lodi this July. I'll post up results if it looks like a good venue.

I found several places that have the same feel as the Bar 717 by searching "summer camp" in Google Maps. They are all over the western slope of the Sierras up and down the state, which is where a lot of good riding is also found.

We explored Camp Sylvester a few years ago. Pop will remember the exact details, but the weekend that the WCR is on has been booked up by the 4-H or FFA for the last 70 years on that same weekend. So we had no chance to get it.

No action on this thread in months.  I'll make an offer that I made to a buddy that wants to ride Idaho.  My Pops has a five motorcycle trailer.  As I expect to be retired by the next WCR, if we go with a Frank/Oregon location, I could trailer a number of machines up there for those that would ordinarily ride to a rally.  Something to keep in mind.  Let's not let this thread die either.

Thanks Joe...  I talked to Rick at the RPM Rally and agreed we need ownership around 2020 WCR.  IF everyone wants to try Hayfork again (50/50 chance of being rained out), I'd be happy to coordinate that venue again.  Otherwise I'd ask that someone else (Rick?) jump in and take ownership for the venue.

I'm also willing to have a 2020 PNW rally in Oregon (2nd annual after we had a 4 bike rally here this year), but I think that's separate from the WCR which should include the actual coast I think.  I'll pick up this effort early next year.

I've been looking around on the googler up and down the west coast, trying to find a suitable venue with appropriate accommodations, and proximity to desirable twisties. I know no one wants to cruise up and down Highway 1. I've always longed for a beach rally, but the location needs to be perfect, so I continue the search. If I find something, I will do the research on coordination, etc. Frank, if Hayfork can be made a fallback that might be wise. I would suffer a little rain for those roads again. Plus, their construction efforts may be completed, making for an even more comfortable stay.
