You folks who have done the hella horn upgrade or folks who know about electrical, I was wondering if you could help with the steps. I would like to know where is the best place to cut/tie into the original wiring. I do have a manual but electrical is my weak point. Should I be soldering or butt connectors etc, I just need to be pushed in the right direction with some helpful info. I want to ride with a horn again, thanks.

You want to wake up those loud Hella's the same way we wake up our ignition coils.

Power them from a dedicated circuit from the battery, controlled by a single pull, single throw (spst) normally open relay.
You will use your existing horn wires to power the coil on the relay. When you press the horn button the relay coil is energized, the contacts on the relay close and power the horns via the dedicated circuit, that is home run back to the battery.
IMHO It is much better to take the time and effort and install a special circuit than to put additional electrical loads on your 30 year old wires and connectors and horn switch.

Here is the diagram from the coil relay mod, use it. Substitute the Hella horns for the coils, (run the red/white power from terminal 87 to the horns, ground other side) and use your horn circuit to activate the relay (terminal 86)

Thanks for the info Pat and the link. I just got the hella horns in the mail, I had no idea they were so heavy.

Tuned forks

Are they Hella heavy?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
